Which premium commuter took the top spot?

The 125cc bike space in India has moved on from workhorses, to some offerings giving decent performance and a relatively wide features list. This has no doubt had an effect on their growing sales. So here’s a quick reckoner on which 125cc bike sold the most units last month.

Bike

Units sold

Bajaj Pulsar (Pulsar NS125 & Pulsar 125)

60,352

Hero Super Splendor / Super Splendor Xtec

41,189

TVS Raider

31,002

Hero Glamour

11,783

Honda Shine

8,792

The duo of the Bajaj Pulsar 125 and Pulsar NS125 topped the list, posting a combined sales figure of 60,352 units, which is a massive 126 percent growth from the previous month. Moreover, it’s a notable 21 percent growth from March ‘22.

Number two on the list is the Hero Super Splendor and its slightly more tech-laden sibling, the Super Splendor Xtec; both workhorses posted a decent 41,189 units (combined). Like the Pulsar, its numbers have grown as well, to the tune of 60 percent over the February 2023 numbers. Additionally, its numbers have also grown by 53 percent from March ‘22.

The TVS Raider, our pick of the choice owing to its sporty nature and wide features set, sold 31,002 units. This is a relatively minor 2 percent growth over its February 2023 numbers. However, it’s still a huge 87 percent growth over its March ‘22 numbers.

The second-last name on the list is the ‘original’ premium commuter, the Hero Glamour, which comes in with a relatively small 11,783 units sold. That said, it’s still a 32 percent increase over the previous month, though a monumental 89 percent drop from March ‘22.

And finally, we have the Honda Shine, which secured a relatively small figure of 8,792 units sold in March 2023. Surprisingly, its March numbers are a massive 120 percent less than its February 2023 figures, and is less than one-tenth that of its numbers from March 2022.

Ultimately, though, despite the drop in numbers from the Honda Shine, the month showed an otherwise positive trend, which is only set to grow after the recent transition to BS6.2 norms passes over.
