Bajaj Contributes Rs. 20 crore for the J&K Relief Fund

Bajaj Auto- the home grown two wheeler manufacturer has contributed Rupees 20 crore for the Prime Minister National Relief Fund. The Company has contributed this amount to provide relief efforts in the flood ravaged areas in Jammu & Kashmir. Over 200 persons have been killed in the worst floods to have devastated the northern state in a century.

Mr. Rahul Bajaj, Chairman, Bajaj Auto stated, “The state of Jammu and Kashmir has seen unforeseen disaster and damage to property and infrastructure worth crores of rupees. We feel the grief of our fellow citizens in the state and they need our help at this critical time to come out of this tragedy and to rebuild their lives. Our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made an appeal to all Indians to donate to the PM's National Relief Fund for the affected people in the region. We would like to join the government's effort to help in relief operations in flood-ravaged Jammu & Kashmir and provide all support to the affected countrymen in the state.”

 

Bajaj Group of companies and trusts are very actively involved in various CSR and philanthropic activities such as Education, Medical Health, Sanitation especially providing clean toilets for girl Schools and ensuring supply of clean drinking water etc. and expect to contribute more than 150 crores during the current financial year 2014-15.

 

As per the latest report from PTI, Jammu and Kashmir's civil secretariat has been reopened yesterday, after remaining closed for 11 days due to the floods. However, the arear around the seven-story secretariat building is still submerged in approx one feet of water and only offices in the upper story have been opened.

 

The state Cabinet, which had met under the chairmanship of chief minister Omar Abdullah last week, decided that the government shall start functioning from the civil secretariat, Srinagar, from September 18.
