BMW F650 Summary

BMW knocked the auto market with BMW F650 in the first quarter of 1993. Further BMW tied up with Hero around a decade ago and launched the F650 Funduro on Indian roads, which was priced around 5 lakhs and was a rear spotted bike of that time. Later on with the downfall in demand, Hero and BMW eventually had to lower down the price of the same to approximately 2 lakhs, to finish the stock, but all in vain. Now with all new features and specifications, BMW is ready to hit the auto world once again with its new version of BMW F650 by the end of May 2012. Currently, Navneet Motors are the sole authorized dealers for BMW in India. As per latest updates BMW S 1000RR and BMW R 1200GS would hit the Indian roads with the cost price of Rs. 20 lakhs per bike.

BMW F650 Expert Review

Overview

BMW F650 GS is powered with a 798 cc engine and provides full torque across the entire engine speed range, with a torsional stiff space frame which not only gives it  a unique look, but also allows plenty of space for the extra highlight such as the large airbox and the fuel tank under the seat. The bike can be used on and off road and accordingly the seat height is kept 820 mm with standard ABS. The price of BMW F650 is expected up to Rs. 10 lakh (approx.) as per the company updates.

.

BMW F650 Funduro and F650ST Strada were initially introduced in Europe and USA in 1993 and 1997. It was the first BMW motorbike with a chain drive. The original BMW F650 single-engine was manufactured by an Austrian company ‘Rotax’ while the bike was assembled by ‘Aprilia’. The production of the dual-purpose motorcycle BMW F650GS started in 2000. Later on in 2004 BMW decided to produce a bike with high compression ratio and twin spark plugs, which added excellent fuel economy and low emission exhaust, giving the bike new elevations.

.

BMW F650 may well be the entry-level version of the GS family but the digital display, rear-mounted locking gas cap, controls and the elegant engine makes it a perfect dirt bike. Also the use of disengage able ABS ensures supreme controllable handling in adverse conditions, while TPC allows the rider to keep an eye on tyre pressure as and when required. It uses an MF battery with a halogen headlight and a dual horn system. Some of its wonderful features include stylish step up seat, low fuel, oil and battery indicator, high oil temperature indicator and choked air filter indicator which are rarely noticeable in other bikes.

Design

Besides having optimal dimensions of 2280 mm x 890 mm x 1240 mm with a seat height of 820 mm and a magnificent wheelbase of 1575 mm, BMW F650 is quite light in weight and weighs 199 kg only.

.

BMW F650 has spoke cast aluminum wheels with front one of 19-inch diameter and rear wheel of 17 inches in size surrounded by front mudguard assistance. BMW F650 has an endless O-ring chain drive (with shock damping in rear wheel hub) including tubular steel space frame and load-bearing engine. The two-wheeler is enhanced with the facility of tyre pressure control system that estimates the tyre pressure automatically and sends signal to the driver if the pressure is low.

BMW F650 is a dynamic and sporty look bike, built around a robust twin-cylinder engine that delivers an impressive 71 bhp at 7000 rpm. The bike has a comfortable low seat that ensures outstanding agility, along with ABS and tyre pressure control technology to maximize its safety.

.

BMW F650 is endowed with the ABS feature mainly to impress off-road freaks. The bike provides great comfort to the people of average height as the seat is just 820 mm in height. The perfect riding position along with the off-road qualities makes BMW F650GS a tough rider for the youngsters.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

BMW F650 yields an excellent mileage of 50 km/L (approximately) with an enlarged capacity fuel tank of 20 liters where 16 L indicates the usable tank volume and 4 L is for reserve volume.

.

BMW F650 renders maximum speed of up to 185 km/hr with a 82 mm (prime bore) x 75.6 mm (stroke system). BMW F650 is specially designed to give excellent results in any situation and hence is a fine match for all kinds of tarmac, cobblestones or sandy surface.

.

BMW F650GS is powered with a 798 cc parallel twin engine which generates peak power of 71 bhp at 7000 rpm and maximum torque of 75 Nm at 4500 rpm. The liquid water-cooled, 2-cylinder, 4-stroke (four valves per cylinder) and fuel injected engine is furnished with six-speed gearbox integrated into crankcase. The bike is also empowered with three-way closed loop catalytic converter with oxygen sensor, chain drive, stainless steel exhaust system and digital engine management system (BMS-K).

Handling & Ride Quality

BMW F650 has sound and intact 300 mm single disc front brake and 265mm single disc rear break which grants precise protective controlling. These disc brakes are powerful enough to safeguard 199 kg bike and provide it an edge above the rest.

.

BMW F650 has a telescopic suspension at the front side of the bike along with the mono-shock suspension at the back side which keeps an overall check on the speed of the bike and provides absolute stability even at high speeds.

BMW F650 GS, the strong, sturdy and beautiful bike
I can just imagine in my dreams about the high profile bikes and BMW F650 is one of them.  I have always been a big fan of good racing bikes and i even had my personal bike Yamaha YZF R15 which is giving me the best experience to ride the bike on rough roads. One thing which is good in all the Yamaha bikes is that they do not make any noise during the riding of bike no matter which gear it is and that’s been fantastic. But I am a bigger fan of BMW bikes and especially the four wheeler cars they produce are awesome.  Bike segment is one of the major areas where there are bike lovers who love to ride very powerful bikes and i am one of them.  My dream bike is BMW F650 whenever it will be available in the Indian two wheeler market. I know that I cant afford it but want to take the test ride of this particular bike as I have drove Honda CBR 250 and Kawasaki Ninja so I know it will have the features that are there in the high profile bikes. The bike is well enabled with the powerful engine of 800 cc along with the parallel twin feature which produces a maximum power of 72PS and peak torque of 75Nm. All the features of this bike are very unique but let’s watch out for its battle between other high efficiency bikes. A 6 speed gearbox is mated in the bike. BMW currently has dealers in Mumbai and Bangalore. As for mileage of the bike we know that powerful bikes would not produces good fuel efficiency but still it will deliver around 20 kmpl. Latest Bikes are also in the pipeline of the company and many more yet to come.

Bmw F650 Gs surely would change the biking scenario in India
Pros:  Cons:    Des: If you are a fan of racing bikes than you might be happy because its time for happiness guys, your favorite bike company BMW Motorrad is bringing the sport racer bike BMW F650 GS in the Asian two wheeler market. Event though I also love that high efficiency sporty bikes but couldn’t afford it because they are so heavily coasted in price.  As I have the Honda CBR 150R bike, which is giving me a decent performance and I am very happy to have the bike of Honda Company. BMW Motorrad fixed out the BMW F650 GS Price at Rs. 9.99 lakh, which is quite costlier. No doubt that the bike will produce the Power and great pickup. BMW are one of the finest makers of cars and which is doing well business in the Asian market. BMW has ready to explore the heat on the Indian roads as company is planning to launch many more high profile bikes in the Indian market. The bike is well enabled with the powerful engine of 800 cc along with parallel twin which produces the maximum power of 72PS and peak torque of 75Nm. All the features of this bike are familiar to Kawasaki Ninja 650R. A 6 speed gearbox is mated in the bike. BMW currently has dealers in Mumbai and Bangalore. All an all I just can watch these trailers of high profile bikes on the net and be happy myself.  There are few bike riders who loves to ride sportier bikes and who have money to purchase these bikes. Overall the bike has nice features and performance wise bike will do better than the other bikes in the market, so it will be interesting to watch out the battle between Kawasaki and Ducati bike companies. Cons of this bike are no dealership network and price is higher.
