Bajaj to set up assembly plant in Manaus

Bajaj Auto, India's second largest two-wheeler manufacturer, is mulling over to set up four assembly facilities outside India. The proposed locations are Colombia, Iran, Nigeria and Brazil. Earlier, the company has already sat up plants at Egypt and Indonesia. Madhur Bajaj, Vice Chairman, Bajaj Auto Ltd, told media persons here that the company is planning to set up an assembly plant at Manaus in Brazil by FY 11. He added that Bajaj, currently, studying the site and analysing financial details. However, Mr. Bajaj didn't disclose whether the company was looking for a partner or not. Setting up a facility in Brazil was pending from six-years now. Mr. Bajaj informed that Egypt plant is already started working by one of its distributors. He also informed that expansion plans of Waluj near Aurangabad facility might be commenced very soon as the company has a lot of land there. It is expected that commercial vehicles production will be done there. Meanwhile, Bajaj is all set to launch Kawasaki Ninja 250 R in India whereas Mahindra already launched two scooters in India-Mahindra Rodeo and Mahindra Duro.
