This (somewhat) pared-down ADV offers all thrills and very few frills
KTM has added a new variant of the 390 Adventure, called the 390 Adventure X, on its India website. While the Austrian company is yet to officially reveal the pricing, this variant is expected to be substantially cheaper than the standard version's Rs 3,37,043 price tag, and there are some reports that point at a Rs 2.8 lakh price tag as well. How? Let’s find out:
First off, the instrument console on the 390 Adventure X will likely be an LCD unit, like that on the 250 Adventure, and will not get smartphone connectivity either

But that’s not all: though the 390 Adventure X will retain the switchable dual-channel ABS system - with off-road ABS - and slipper clutch, it’ll miss out on the traction control system, ride-by-wire, quickshifter and cornering ABS. Moreover, it'll sport a big piston fork (where the fork tube itself used as the cartridge) instead of the open cartridge system employed by the standard model.
However, the rest of the bike stays absolutely identical, with the 373.2cc liquid-cooled engine still making an identical 43PS and 37Nm. Moreover, the suspension system, wheels, tyres, even the paint schemes on offer (Dark Galvano Black, and Racing Blue), are all identical to that on the standard 390 Adventure.
Ultimately, though, the KTM 390 Adventure X seems like a step in the right direction. It offers all the performance of the 390 Adventure with just a few tech omissions, which we anyway doubt will have a significant effect on its overall off-road ability. But more importantly, the lower price tag will attract a wider audience who would have otherwise settled for the 250 Adventure.
