UM Motorcycles has entered the Indian two-wheeler market with the launch of its Renegade range at the 2016 Auto Expo .The company has launched Renegade Commando at Rs. 1.59 lac, Renegade Classic at Rs. 1.69 lac and Renegade Sport S at Rs. 1.49 lac (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi). The company has come to India in collaboration with Lohia Auto and has its office in Okhla, New Delhi. According to carandbike, UM Motorcycles will start export operations from May 2016 and will export its bikes to UK, France and South East Asian markets. With this price tag, these cruisers can prove to be a good buy against the well-established offerings from Royal Enfield in India.
Mr. Rajeev Mishra, MD, UM Motorcycles, said, "Exports are a big part of our plans here. It would be interesting to export from here. These bikes have been specifically designed for the Indian market, but we will also be beginning exports simultaneously in May 2016. The bikes will be exported to a few European countries like UK and France and also South East Asian Markets, where we already have distributors in place." He added, "Make in India bikes have a high-quality perception across the world now, thanks to giants like Bajaj and TVS, and even Hero. These bikes have already made a very good name abroad and are considered to be good quality products. India has a very good name - the product coming from India has a high-quality perception. It's an advantage for us, making in India. Of course, it works out to be cost-effective too, rather than making in China or even the US. So, making at low price and selling at a good price, that's what a business house wants, and that makes sense to do it from India."
While talking to BikeDekho, Mr. Juan Villegas, Global Director, Business Development, UM Motorcycles hinted towards the launch of more bikes in Renegade range this year. He said, "We have no plans to bring a new bike to India this year. Instead, we are working on more variants of UM Renegade cruisers that you can expect to see by year end. With the new bikes we have introduced in Delhi Auto expo, we see it as the opening of a new motorcycle segment as presently, UM is the only one to offer such motorcycles at this price range." Speaking about company’s expansion strategy in India, he said, "In the initial level, we will start our operations by 50 dealerships across India. The dealer network will expand to 100 dealerships within one year that will help in easy accessibility of our products."
