India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, Yamaha Motor has discontinued the build process of the company's three premium bikes including Yamaha Alba, GS and Gladiator 125cc from the Indian market. There is no any further plans of the company for launch an upgraded versions of discontinued models in the country. According to government notification that all two-wheelers has to refresh to latest BS-III emission norms by April 2010. Mr Pankaj Dubey, National Sales Head, IYML said, “We decided to not update the Alba, G5 and Gladiator as per the new emission laws, because the sales were low anyway.
Although production has stopped, the bikes are still in some small markets as we're clearing our inventory. We've recently launched the YBR 110 as a replacement for the Alba and G5, while the YBR 125 will now replace the Gladiator. “We are not looking to compete with some of the big names in the Indian motorcycle market...Yamaha is looking to chalk out its own strategy and make our own way into the market.”
Yamaha Motors is targeting to get 30 percent market stake in the 150cc segment and recently launched its two new premium motorcycles such as Yamaha SZ and SZ-X. The company hopes that the all new premium motorcycles is expected to come up at par their expectation.
