After plenty of new paint schemes Yamaha Motor India has finally given new upgrades to the FZ16 and FZS. The new models christened as FZ- FI and FZ-S FI Version 2.0 are launched at Rs. 76,250 and 78,250 (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively. Both the bikes have received cosmetic and mechanical updates resulting in improved performance.
The new apprearances have been incorporated in the form of tweaked headlamp units, new and sharper rear panels, split-type rear grab rail, clear indicators, split seat and a new tail lamp on both the variants. The masculine fuel tank, front mudguard, handlebar and switch gears have been continued from the previous models. The new Yamaha FZ looks totally different with a new short mudguard and a tyre hugger.
Again the changes in the standard FZ and FZS Version 2.0 are minor - the latter gets a front visor and a new graphical paint scheme. The new tank cowls are bigger and get air scoops to improve the cooling efficiency of the air-cooled engine. A new sporty muffler with chrome garnishing replaces the old midship muffle; Instrument console of the bikes is fully digital and is now blessed with a new design along with a big LCD screen. This single screen clearly provides all the required information of the ride.
Powering the updated Yamaha FZ is the same 153cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine which powered the older version as well. However this time it gets close loop fuel injection technology to enhance the performance. Although there is no substantial increase in power and torque outputs, the fuel economy of the bikes has improved by 14 percent. . It also features an eco-indicator to inform the rider about the running mileage of the bike. The new variants deliver 13.1bhp of power along with a peak torque of 12.8Nm.
Wheels, brakes and suspensions of the Yamaha FZ 2.0 are shared from the previous version. The bike comes with the wide 5-spoke alloys, however it is covered by new tyres, having revised tread pattern and made of different compound. The company claims that at 132kgs, the FZ and the FZ-S are the lightest offerings in the respective segment.
The 2014 Yamaha FZS FI Version 2.0 has been made available in 4 colour options – Astral Blue, Molten Orange, Moon Walk White and Cyber Green – while the 2014 Yamaha FZ-S FI Version 2.0 is only available in Panther Black and Scorching Red colour. Now let's see how these new predators will compete with their rivals in the market including Honda CB Trigger and the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer.
