Okinawa Scooters was founded back in 2015 with the goal of jumping into the burgeoning electric 2-wheeler market in India. In the following year, the company set up its manufacturing facility in Bhiwandi, Rajasthan with a production capacity of 300 e-scooters per shift. It was in January 2017 when Okinawa launched its first e-scooter, the Ridge, which had a top speed of 45kmph and a claimed range of 72km on a full charge. By the end of that same year, Okinawa launched their second e-scooter, the Praise with a top speed of 58kmph and a claimed range of 131km on a full charge. But at this time, all the company’s products were running on cheaper lead-acid batteries rather than the more premium, and lighter, Li-ion batteries. Okinawa’s first scooter with a removable Li-ion battery came in Oct 2018 - the Ridge+, which promised a top speed of 45kmph and a range of 84km. By November 2019, the company had launched a total of seven products, including the OKHI-90, iPraise+, Praise Pro and Ridge+ (high speed models) along with the R30, Lite and Dual (low speed models). The company had also showcased its first electric motorcycle at the 2020 Auto Expo the OKI-100 which is set to be launched in the near future.
