27th february, 2015 : Ducati has always maintained its supremacy when it comes to deliver high-end sports bikes. Ducati gives yet another example of perfectly crafted machines by releasing its Streetfighter series. It is available exclusively across the country at Ducati dealerships in two variants: Ducati streetfighter 848 and Ducati streetfighter S. Streetfighter S is the bigger and powerful version among the two siblings which sports a 1099cc engine. The other one, Streetfighter 848 comes with a 849cc engine. The bikes are priced at Rs. 20.18 lac for Streetfighter S and Rs. 15.40 lac for streetfighter 848 (both prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).

Overview

Ducati enters the league of naked street bikes in the country by launching Ducati streetfighter series. Known for their elegant design and breath taking performance, Ducati keeps the spirit alive in their streetfighter series as well. The streetfighter S version features a higher capacity 1100cc engine while the smaller one comes with 849cc engine. With the streetfighter series launch, the competition heats-up for other leading bike manufacturers like Harley Davidson, Aprilia and BMW.

Ducati Streetfighter S comes fitted with a 1099cc, four stroke engine mated to a six-speed gearbox. The mill produces a maximum power of 152bhp at 9500rpm with peak torque of 115Nm at 9500rpm. On the other hand, Ducati streetfighter 848 comes with a 849cc, four stroke engine with six-speed gearbox that produces net power of 132hp at 10,000 rpm with a peak torque of 93.5Nm at 9500rpm. The Marelli fuel injection system ensures crisp throttle response and excellent power delivery.

Both bikes are built on a tubular steel trellis frame, which provide rigidity to handle strict riding conditions well. The bikes are equipped with DTC (Ducati Traction Control), which caters improved stability and control in strict conditions by offering eight different riding profiles. The beasts sport drop-down type sharp headlamp design, twin silencers and sharp body dynamics to meet the super street fighter image.

The instrumentation of the bike is fully digital, clear and informative, which includes : speedometer, tachometer, lap times, time, air temp, coolant temp, battery voltage, twin trip meters and warning lights for neutral, turn blinkers, high beam, DTC intervention, oil pressure, fuel reserve and immobiliser system. Another feature that marked its presence was the Quick shifter mechanism. As the name suggests, it enables quick and easy gear shifting without involving the clutch.

Design

Ducati Streetfighter 848 is a powerful maniac designed to satisfy the urge of adrenaline. To make it a true speedster, the manufacturer has crafted it on a Tubular steel Trellis frame in ALS 450. The nimble and rigid frame, takes out the best performance of the motorcycle. The ride is bettered with the equipment of Marzocchi 43mm fully adjustable upside-down forks at the front and progressive linkage with fully adjustable monoshock at the rear. Pirelli Diablo Corsa tyres equipped to 10-spoke alloy wheels that are light in weight and provide ample of traction to the ride. The efficient braking is a result of 320mm dual semi-floating disc brakes with radially mounted Brembo 4-piston calipers at the front and 245mm disc brake with 2-piston calipers at the front.

Ducati Streetfighter 848 is the most exquisite naked sports motorcycle available in the Indian market. The dimensions of this pleasing motorcycle are 2102mm x 775mm x 1114mm (length x width x height). Its wet weight is 199kg, which keeps the bike ground and enhances the stability for the rider. Seat height of 840mm makes the rider feel confident over the ride. The wheelbase of 1475mm takes the stability to the next level and rider can easily perform cornering. The instrument cluster is fully digital and highly informative as it displays speedometer, tachometer, timer, air temperature, coolant temperature, battery voltage, trip meters, etc.

The instrument console also works as the control panel for Ducati Data Analyzing and Ducati Traction Control system. Lap time can also be recorded on the console by using high beam flash button as a stopwatch. Minimalistic body panels, robust nature, electrifying headlight structure and impeccable dual exhaust system complement the intriguing approach of the motorcycle. Ducati Red is the only color that is available in the market.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

Ducati Streetfighter 848 houses an 849cc, Testastretta 11° L-Twin, 4 Desmodromically actuated valves per cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox that works with a wet multiplate type clutch with hydraulic control. With a bore x stroke value of 94mm x 61.2mm and compression ratio of 13.2:1, the mill is tuned to generate a maximum power of 132hp at 10,000rpm with a peak torque of 93.5Nm at 9,500rpm. Usage of Marelli electronic fuel injection with elliptical throttle bodies extracts power from the mill smoothly and throttle response gets crisp. 

Handling & Ride Quality

Being of the product of the iconic motorcycle manufacturer, one cannot expect an issue when it comes to its maneuvering. The bike runs seamlessly catering all types of terrains and breaking speed records. Braking is very efficient over these machine with the fat rubbers equipped at both the ends. Furthermore, the sound braking system along with Ducati traction control system enhances the catch or bite of discs and fall of speed. Handling is upright with healthy riding position, fine wheelbase and weight of the motorcycle. Chassis is one of the finest ever found that keeps the handling at its best and steering at its easiest.

Features

Ducati Traction Control has been bestowed to the motorcycle that helps the rider get proper grip on different types of terrains. The wide tyres at both ends with powerful braking system ensure safety of the rider. However, Anti-lock braking system is missing, which is not digestible.
