About Hero Xtreme Sports

The Hero Xtreme Sports is a premium 150cc commuter positioned above the Achiever 150 in Hero Motocorp’s lineup. The bike is priced at Rs 80,100 for the front disc variant and Rs 82,100 for the front and rear disc version (both, ex-showroom Delhi). It competes with other naked motorcycles like the TVS Apache RTR 160, Suzuki Gixxer, Honda CB Hornet 160R and the Bajaj Pulsar NS160. Powering the Hero Xtreme Sports is a 149.2cc single-cylinder air-cooled OHC engine which churns out 15.8PS at 8500rpm and 13.5Nm at 7000rpm. With a 5-speed transmission, the bike is capable of reaching a claimed top speed of 107kmph.

Suspension bits include telescopic forks up front and twin five-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. You get a 240mm disc up front as standard, while the rear comes with either a 130mm drum or a 220mm disc. There’s no ABS, even as an option, though.

Xtreme Sports Expert Review

Overview

Hero has released the latest upgrade to its classy 150cc bike Xtreme, which is now christened as the Xtreme Sports. With every motorcycle in India essentially going through a cosmetic surgery with the passage of time, the Hero Xtreme also went through it and evolved as the Hero Xtreme Sports. The bike resembles majorly with its standard version with a slight modifications here & there. The engine is the same carrying a 149.2cc motor developing a handsome peak power of 15.2 bhp at 8500 rpm. The four-stroke, single-cylinder, OHC, air-cooled engine is as refined as ever, which is evident from the Xtreme's very low decibel exhaust note. The engine is mated to a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox that ensures justice with the power delivery of the machine. The rear suspension is a gas filled 5-step adjustable one to ease the hecticity of the strict Indian Roads. The major modification has been done in the headlight section as it now incorporates a central headlamp with two “wolf eyed” pilot lamps pivoted at the top. The instrument console now gets a bit old fashioned by stacking the tachometer to the left side. The includings remain the same : a speedo, a tripmeter, an odometer and a fuel gauge, all digital by their genes. The fuel tank capacity remains at 12.1 litres with 1.5 litre of usable reserve. The Hero Xtreme Sports sits on a diamond type chassis similarly to the rest of its mates. The Ignition system is the AMI that stands for Advanced Microprocessor Ignition System which remains the flagship ignition system of the CBZ class since the first CBZ took its charge in the year 1999. Being the first motorcycle manufacturer to stock split grab rail in their bikes, Hero rear section remains unchanged. The turning blinkers now stood on the rear fender unlike the first Xtreme. This bike is a good option if you are planning to go for a 150cc “not so noisy” bike. The refinement further adds to its glory making it one of the most trustworthy 150cc offerings so far.

Design

The Hero Xtreme Sports comes with sporty design elements like a ‘Wolf-Eye’ headlamp, tank extensions, engine cowl and even split seats with split grab rails. While the headlamp is halogen, the tail lamp consists of LEDs. The bike packs a semi-digital instrument console featuring a side-stand indicator apart from the regular trove of information.

The Hero Xtreme Sports draws power from a 149.2cc single-cylinder air-cooled OHC engine. Working alongside a 5-speed transmission, it generates 15.8PS at 8500rpm and 13.5Nm at 7000rpm. Hero claims the motorcycle can reach a top speed of 107kmph. The powerplant offers sprightly acceleration and the noise, vibration and harshness levels are considerably better than the earlier generation bike. However, its 147kg kerb weight puts a damper on the motor’s full potential. The motorcycle returned 48kmpl in our tests, and could easily touch around 55kmpl if ridden with a sensitive wrist.

Handling & Ride Quality

The Hero Xtreme Sports is built on a tubular diamond type frame with telescopic forks up front and five-step adjustable Gas Reservoir Suspension at the rear. Ride quality is commendable as the bike smoothens out road undulations rather effortlessly. The 240mm front and the 220mm rear disc offer great bite, feel and progression. The base variant comes with a 130mm rear drum, though. The frame allows nimble handling in traffic, but it could’ve been better in corners.

Features

The Hero Xtreme Sports comes with disc brakes on both ends, but ABS is missing. Expect Hero to launch the bike with a single-channel ABS ahead of the new safety norms that will come into effect from 1 April, 2019 onwards. The new ruling mandates compulsory ABS for motorcycles with engine capacities of 150cc and above.
