Overview

March 2, 2017: DSK Hyosung has launched a limited edition variant of its Aquila 250. The bike is priced at Rs 2.94 lakh (ex-Delhi) and is limited to 100 units. The limited edition variant gets 3 color options - Matte Green, Carbon Black, and Desert Brown.

The Aquila 250 is an entry-level cruiser and the most affordable V-twin to be sold in India. The design is inspired from the larger Aquila Pro or GV 650 as it is known internationally. The Aquila 250 covers all the details of a classic cruiser - the large round headlamp and twin pod instrument console, fat front forks, all in chrome. The tear-drop shaped fuel tank can hold 14-litres. It also gets a chrome exhaust and cast aluminum 16-inch front and 15-inch rear alloys, wrapped with fat tubeless tires. The split seats are wide and with the low and relaxed seating position should be comfortable over long distances.

Cycle parts include conventional front forks and twin shock absorbers at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a single disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear.

The cruiser is powered by a 249cc high-revving V-twin that is quite uncharacteristic for cruisers. The oil-cooled mill produces 26.5PS @ 9500rpm and 21.37Nm of torque @ 7000rpm. The bike has a low kerb weight of 179kgs which should allow it to sprint off the line quicker.

The bike is brought into the country as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit and assembled at their manufacturing facility in Wai, Pune. The USP of the bike is its dimensions and lashings of chrome that give it quite a bit of road presence. The bike is priced at Rs 2.84 lakh (ex-Delhi) and makes sense if you are looking for a multi-cylinder (read V-twin) cruiser at a budget.

Design

The motorcycle is dimensionally compact than the full sized cruiser bikes, but it still carries almost all the design elements required for similar body style. It comes with an overall dimension of 2282 mm in length, 875 mm in width and 1096 mm in height along with a 1515 mm of wheelbase. The ground clearance of the bike sits at 155 mm, which is more in comparison to other cruiser bikes, and delivers a pleasant ride on Indian roads. Total kerb weight of the machine is 179 kg.

The bike is chromed lavishly that enhances its appearance and renders the feel of a classic cruiser to the crowd. At the front, it has round headlamp, which looks classy when seen with the front suspension forks. The hostile design and magnetic appearance of the bike are similar to its elder sibling Aquila 650 pro, which is also available in the Indian market. It has a delicately designed instrument cluster, which is a two pod unit that includes an analogue speedometer, a tachometer and LC D odometer. Except this, A digital gear indicator along with the warning lights also find their place in that section.

Modish rear view mirrors offer a clear sight of the traffic and make the riding hassle-free. The side features a teardrop shaped fuel tank and body panels. The rear side shows a well suited U-shaped tail lamp incorporated to a set of fancy side blinkers with space given for the number plate. This cruiser machine is made available in the country in three breathtaking colors, which are: Black, White, Black and Red combination.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

The cruiser features a 4-stroke, DOHC 8 valve 75 degrees V-twin 249cc, oil cooled engine which comes mated to a 5-speed transmission system. The mill generates a maximum power of 26.21 Bhp at 9500 rpm and a peak torque of 21.37 Nm at 7000 rpm. The torque generated is enough for stop and go traffic. It has a sharply chiseled fuel tank with a capacity of 14 liters but is does not offers a good mileage. Apart from this, the manufacturer also offers it with an electric start as well kick start for rider’s comfortable and convenience.

Handling & Ride Quality

The braking duties are carried out by a semi floating 275 mm single disc with dual piston caliper at the front along with a drum brake at the rear end. The absence of rear disc brake intercepts the bike from being a complete package. For better ride, the manufacturer configured it with a suspension system, which consists of a telescopic spoke suspension at the front whereas hydraulic double shock absorber suspension at the rear end to try and make the ride bump free.

Still, the suspension is not according to the Indian roads, any pothole can disturb the bike. It is made for the long distance rides as it delivers a set back riding posture. The rider can smooth ride the bike up to the speed range of 80-100 kmph, after that  the rider feel vibrations over this speed that reduce the riding stability.

Features

The bike runs on an 110/90 – 16 59S tubeless tyre at the front and a 150/80 – 70S tubeless tyre at the rear wheel. The tubeless tyres reduce the sudden downshifts in the case of puncture. Furthermore, it is equipped with a liquid cooled system that prevents engine heating, whereas its maintenance free battery moves for a fairly long time without any maintenance. Apart from that this cruiser is bestowed with a Disk brake at the front end which offers a fierce stopping power and are safer for long distance riding. The company gives the warranty of two years for the bike. All above-mentioned feature makes it a trustworthy and reliable cruiser bike.
