2021 BMW S 1000 R Launched In India At Rs 17.90 lakh

The latest iteration of the S 1000 R has undergone a major cosmetic overhaul

The 2021 model is priced at Rs 17.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It’s powered by a BS6-compliant 999cc liquid-cooled inline-four that makes 167PS and 114Nm.  The quirky asymmetrical headlight makes way for a more conventional single-piece LED unit. 

BMW Motorrad has launched the 2021 S 1000 R in India at Rs 17,90,000 for the Standard model, Rs 19,75,000 for the Pro variant and Rs 22,50,000 for the Pro M Sport trim. The new-gen bike has got a laundry list of changes. 

To begin with, the S 1000 R now has a revised design; the new single-piece LED headlight with DRL resembles the F 900 R, while the integrated taillight mimics the S 1000 RR’s unit. Overall, the latest Beemer looks much more compact.

It’s powered by a BS6-compliant 999cc liquid-cooled inline-four with an output rated at 167PS and 114Nm. While the numbers haven’t changed, BMW claims to have improved the overall rideability. 

The 2021 BMW S 1000 R gets a large 6.5-inch TFT screen that allows you to toggle between three ride modes - Road, Rain, and Dynamic. That aside, there’s cornering ABS and a multi-level traction control system. The bike also gets Bluetooth-based smartphone connectivity for the navigation system. 

The new ‘Flex Frame’ uses the motor as the stressed member. The suspension setup consists of a  45mm USD fork and an adjustable monoshock. Shedding speed on the 2021 BMW S 1000 R are a pair of 320mm front discs and a 220mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS.

The bike has a 16.5-litre fuel tank. The seat is 830mm high and should be fairly manageable for riders of all builds. It tips the scales at 199kg. However, using the optional M-package carbon wheels helps the bike shed 5kg.  

The 2021 BMW S 1000 R rivals the Ducati Streetfighter V4, Kawasaki Z H2, and the Triumph Speed Triple 1200.
