Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG Bike: How To Keep CNG Tank Leak Proof

The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike was recently launched in India as the world’s first CNG bike. Prices of the bike start at Rs 95,000 and go up to Rs 1,10,00 (ex-showroom). The CNG bike is powered by a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which works with both CNG and petrol fuels. 

The Bajaj Freedom 125 comes with two fuel tanks: a 2kg primary CNG fuel tank, which is placed under the seat and a secondary 2-litre petrol tank, which can be used when the CNG runs out. However, with the CNG tank comes its maintenance essentials which are different from a normal petrol fuel tank. 

On the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike, you have to get the fuel tank inspection done every 2 years at the Bajaj service centres. This test involves checking the CNG tank for damage, corrosion, wear and tear, its pressure holding capacity, nozzle, potential leaks and other components of the bike associated with the CNG mechanism. 

This test should be done by the owner at a regular interval of every 2 years and on priority as it is directly related to the CNG tank and the rider’s safety. If you don't get the test done on time and the validity is expired, then the CNG pump will straightaway refuse to fill CNG in your bike, because of the potential risks involved. For your perspective, every CNG car also requires a CNG tank inspection, but the interval for cars is every 3 years.

The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike produces a peak output of 9.5PS and 9.7Nm on the CNG mode and has a claimed top speed of 90.5kmph on CNG and 93.4kmph on petrol. The bike also has a switch which allows it to change fuel mode between CNG and petrol seamlessly.

It claims to provide a mileage of 102km/kg on CNG and 65kmpl on petrol, offering a combined range of 330km on a full tank. However, in our test, which included both city and highway riding, the bike delivered a mileage of 85km/kg on CNG.

The Bajaj Freedom 125 goes up against other 125cc bikes like Honda Shine 125, Hero Glamour, Bajaj Pulsar 125, Hero Xtreme 125R and TVS Raider 125.
