Bajaj Pulsar CS400 Launch on Feb 1?

After Royal Enfield’s surprise announcement, another Indian bike maker Bajaj has asked us to save our dates on February 1, for the launch of a new motorcycle. Just like Royal Enfield, Bajaj’s event date too comes as another bonanza preceding the upcoming Auto Expo, where neither manufacturer is participating. While the company has not disclosed much information, we believe it will launch its long-awaited and highest displacement motorcycle yet, the Bajaj Pulsar CS400. As per a Zigwheels report, Bajaj officials had confirmed that the launch of CS400 (Cruiser Sports) is highly likely during 2016. Earlier, Bajaj had announced its non-participation at the Expo, in order to better utilise the funds for marketing their products. With the launch of the CS400, Bajaj will create a new segment of ‘Cruiser Sports’ motorcycles, aping the much larger displacement Ducati Diavel in some ways. 

The bike will be marketed as a powerful, reliable, easy to run and maintain machine that can be used for leisure biking as well as for long tours. The price of this first ‘Cruiser Sports’ motorcycle is estimated to be kept under Rs. 2 Lac, which could definitely make it a special and affordable offering. The bike will be powered by a 375cc, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine that is tuned to generate 32.54bhp of power and 35Nm of torque. Its powerplant will be mated to a 6-speed gearbox. 

Based on a similar platform as its Austrian cousin the KTM 390 Duke, the Bajaj Pulsar CS400 will bear a power cruiser stance and feature a rather raked-out front end as well as longer rear swingarm. The motorcycle has borrowed its rear gas-charged mono suspension from the Pulsar 200 NS and the upside down forks up front come from the KTM Dukes. Braking will be dealt with by disc brakes at both the ends and ABS will be offered as a standard feature. The bike doesn’t seem to have any competition. Earlier this week, Royal Enfield had announced a press conference with its MD & CEO Siddhartha Lal at Delhi on February 2, which is being pegged by media as the launch event for its first adventure tourer, the Himalayan. Incidentally, the RE Himalayan is the only motorcycle with a similar displacement at 410cc, but only time will tell if these two disparate machines compete against one another.
