EMotorad: All You Need To Know
The budding startup has some interesting plans for the electric mobility market
When we speak of electric mobility, we talk of it being eco-friendly and a lot easier on the pocket, especially when it comes to everyday usability. Yet, not everyone is open to adapting to the tech. Why is that? Well, the biggest reason is range anxiety. After all, no one wants to be stranded midway after running out of charge. EMotorad intends to revolutionise e-mobility with its interesting range of e-cycles. Here’s everything you’d want to know about this budding brand:
Who Is EMotorad?
Based out of a quaint locality on the outskirts of Pune, EMotorad was founded last year by Rajib Gangopadhyay. Within a span of one year with just a handful of employees, the brand has built quite a few interesting e-bikes and e-scooters, of which, three are already in production.

EMotorad’s Product Lineup
Currently, the brand has three products on sale, each targeting a different set of audience. For more outgoing and rugged usage, the brand’s flagship model, EMX, was launched last year. It is claimed to be the first e-bike in our market with dual suspension. Last month, the brand launched a slightly affordable hardtail bike, the T-Rex, meant for a range of riding applications. The third option, Karbon, meant for commutes and recreational use, is a foldable e-bike that can be easily loaded into the boot of your car.
What Makes These E-bikes Unique?
Despite being in the nascent stage, EMotorad has chalked out every aspect of the business quite thoroughly. All the e-bike frames are built using 6061-grade aluminium that contributes to its lightness without compromising on the ruggedness. In fact, EMotorad offers a lifetime warranty on all its frames.
As for the battery pack, they are IP-67 certified, meaning you do not need to worry about taking these e-bikes out in the rain, however, it won’t withstand a pressure wash. The EMX and the T-Rex come with a quick release lock to conveniently detach the battery and charge it at home. Constructed with Samsung cells, the battery packs promise a range of up to 45km on the throttle mode and over 70km in pedal assist mode.
The BLDC hub motors are IP-68 certified, so you need not worry about taking it off-road or even pressure washing it later. The motors on these are capable of propelling the e-bikes to a claimed top speed of up to 25kmph.

Of course, things like headlight and tail light are offered as standard, however, instead of the conventional bell, EMotorad offers an electronic horn. An interesting bit is the safety cut-off function, which sends power to the essentials such as lights and horns but not the motor after the battery nears the end of its charge cycle.
All the e-bikes come with an LCD display that not only shows the battery status and speed, but also allows you toggle through a trip meter, odometer, clock, voltage, and five pedal assist modes. EMotorad is also working on an app that will pack more features, including geo-fencing and remote locking.
Can We Expect More Products From EMotorad?
Absolutely. During our visit to the EMotorad factory, we saw quite a few interesting products in different stages of development. The brand has been constantly evolving its existing product lineup as well. The Karbon, for instance, will soon be introduced in a new avatar, rechristened to Doodle.
Its future plans include venturing into the B2B segment. The brand already has some unique products in the pipeline, including an e-scooter with a claimed payload of 250kg! This is something unheard of, at least at the moment, in the Indian electric two-wheeler market. However, we won’t see the brand’s B2B products until 2022.

EMotorad has also been quietly tinkering with the idea of e-scooters and already has a bunch of prototypes ready. However, the company plans to get into the e-scooter business in 2023. It has also hinted at the possibility of other vehicles by 2024.
Where Can You Buy The EMotorad E-bikes?
Currently, EMotorad is present in 48 cities and caters to 4,000 pincodes across the country. The brand aims to open 200 showrooms in 100 cities by the end of this year. Those who don't have access to an EMotorad dealership could have the bike shipped out to them. The company will assist with maintenance and repairs through its nearest affiliated care centre.
