Modified On Sep 14, 2012 12:00 AM By Pallavi Taneja

Lightning Motors have announced that the fastest electric bike in the world will finally go into production, bringing happiness to all the electric bike enthusiasts in the world. This superbike, the first to ever break the 200mph mark (321.869kmph) when it reached 218mph (351.86kmph) at the Bonneville Salt Flats on 16th August 2011, was a huge demand from green bike enthusiasts all over the world.  The bike runs on Remy HVH250 electric propulsion motor, and an Ener1 battery pack. The pack provides mileage of over 100 miles on the freeway and a combined city/highway range of 150 miles. Lightning Motors has started taking orders on its website with the base price set at $38,888 (21, 52,061 INR).

The company was formed when Mr. Richard Hatfield came together with engineers who shared his views of a cleaner environment with higher performance. The Lightning Motorcycles company motto, believe that choosing to ride an electric bike over conventional ones should not be a compromise. It is worth mentioning that the earlier speed record was also set by the same Superbike. The superbike was driven by Paul Thede, who is the principal owner of Race Tech. Paul Thede is a mechanical engineer obtained the degree from the California State Polytechnic University. Widely, people know him better as the suspension guru.

He also was in charge of and developed the motorcycle suspension of the Lightning Superbike. When asked on the occasion, he said not only breaking the 200 mph mark was special because it marked a huge advancement in green technology, but the market production is the next big leap in motor biking story.  The bike on the production line will look identical to the TTXGP winning, Le Mans winning and land speed world record setting bike.
