Indian FTR Carbon Launched Abroad

It costs GBP 2,800 (around Rs 2.65 lakh) more than the standard model

As the name suggests, the Indian FTR Carbon is draped in carbon fibre. It gets an Akrapovic exhaust system as standard. Despite packing lightweight carbon fibre, the bike weighs 5kg more than the standard variant.

Indian Motorcycles has launched the FTR Carbon in select international markets. In the UK, it is priced at GBP 14,699 (around Rs 13.93 lakh), which is about Rs 2.65 lakh more than the base variant. 

True to its name, the Indian FTR Carbon features a full carbon fibre headlamp cowl, front fender, fuel tank panels and pillion seat cowl. There’s a branded centre console plate along with a different paint scheme with red frame for an added dose of premiumness. More importantly, it also features an Akrapovic exhaust as standard. But despite having carbon fibre panels, the bike tips the scales at 235kg kerb, which is a full 5 kg heavier than the standard Indian FTR 1200. It also gets a 10mm higher seat, at 815mm.

The motorcycle packs the same 1203cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine which churns out 124.7PS and 120Nm. But instead of 6000rpm in the standard model, the Carbon edition produces the peak torque 100rpm earlier. The engine is reined in by a plethora of electronics including Sport, Standard and Rain modes, switchable dual-channel ABS, cruise control, stability, traction and wheelie control.

The red-painted trellis frame is linked to a fully adjustable inverted cartridge front fork and a rear gas-charged monoshock with preload, compression and rebound adjustment. Brakes include dual 320mm discs up front and a 260mm disc at the rear. Indian has also equipped the motorcycle with premium features like an all-LED lighting system and a 4.3-inch customisable touchscreen instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity.

Indian could launch this motorcycle in India in a few months as the bike has already been listed on the brand’s official Indian website. Expect it to be priced at around Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom), entering the country via the CBU route. There are no natural rivals to this motorcycle in this segment.
