Modified On Sep 14, 2015 12:00 AM By Sameer Sheikh

Due to the rise in traffic, Maharashtra Government is looking forward to launch its pilot project of Motorbike Ambulance in Mumbai, from next year. The government is doing so to ensure the expeditious treatment during an accident. The MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) to this effect has been signed between the Maharashtra Health Minister Deepak Sawant and British trade and investment minister Lord Francis Maude on 10th of September 2015.

According to the Deepak Sawant, this effort will allow the accident victims to access medical care within “platinum ten minutes” rather than the “golden hour”. He also stated that the four wheel ambulance finds it difficult to pass through  congested roads of the city and the Doctors or the paramedics can cut through the traffic easily due to their manoeuvrability.  While Lord Francis Maude said that the MoU will help to strengthen the relationship between India and Britain in the healthcare sector at the same time, it will also expand the health care in rural areas.

He further added that “The State will benefit from the advanced technology from Britain, which will guide the state administration to keep digital records of patients. Doctors and nurses will be trained and healthcare centres in the rural areas will be strengthened."

The two wheel ambulances will find it easy to reach the accident victims stuck in congested areas and take them to the nearest hospital at the earliest of time. These ambulances will be placed at the hot spots in the cities.
