MotoGP: Valentino Rossi Withdraws his CAS appeal over Marquez incident

Modified On Dec 11, 2015 12:00 AM By Sameer Sheikh

Former MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi has withdrawn his CAS (Court of Arbitration) 3 points penalty appeal against Marc Marquez. Earlier, Valentino had collided with Marc Marquez at the Malaysian MotoGP on October 25, 2015.

In his appeal, Rossi requested for the annulment of the penalty, or at least, a reduction in penalty points. As per the FIM Regulations, if a rider has 4 penalty points, then he must start next race from the last grid. Therefore, Rossi filed an urgent application to stay in the challenge in order not to lose his place on the last event of the season. On November 5, 2015, Prof. Ulrich Haas, the sole Arbitrator appointed by the mutual consent of both the parties found that the conditions of appeal did not met, hence Valentino had to began last race of the season from the last grid.

While Rossi lost hopes of winning the seventh MotoGP title, the appeal with CAS remained ongoing. Few days ago, he took his appeal back. The court gave the statement “Mr. Rossi has now informed the CAS he does not wish to continue with his appeal. Accordingly the arbitration procedure has been terminated and FIM decision will continue to remain in force.”
