Suzuki working on 4 new products; will be manufactured in India

Modified On Sep 13, 2014 12:00 AM By Naveen Soni for Suzuki Gixxer (2014-2018)

Suzuki Motorcycles India Pvt. Ltd. (SMIPL) is working on four new products, which will be manufactured in India for both domestic as well as for the export purpose. One of the new products will be a 100cc motorcycle besides, we are also expecting an entry level 150cc bike based on the latest Suzuki Gixxer. The company might also launch a new scooter housing the new 110cc SEP engine used in the Let's.

These new Suzuki two wheeler would be introduced in the market over the coming two years and the same would be exported to other markets including Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, apart from the neighbouring countries. It will help the company to make India a manufacturing hub for its two wheeler market.

Atul Gupta, VP (sales and marketing) for Suzuki Motorcycles India, said,"Suzuki wants to boost its share in the Indian two-wheeler market. Work is on at its headquarters at Hamamatsu in Japan for developing four new two-wheelers for India two scooters and two motorcycles."

Unlike its huge success in the car business with Maruti in India, Suzuki is not selling the desired volume of two wheelers in the market. Currently, it offers 3 scooter models- Access 125, Swish 125 and Let's 110, and 5 bikes- Hayate 110, Gixxer 155, GS150R, Slingshot Plus 125 and Inazuma 250, apart from the superbike segment. Bollywood actor- Salman Khan endorses Suzuki brand in India.

With this product line-up, Suzuki covers 8 percent of the scooter segment in India, however, performance is poor in the bigger motorcycle segment. Overall market share of the company is 2 percent in the Indian two wheeler market. However, the new Gixxer and Let's are expected to perform better and boost the sales figures of the company along with their best selling product- Hayate. To further support the growth, Mr. Gupta said that they are also focusing on expansion of dealerships across India.
