Triumph Speed Twin 1200 [2021-2024] Summary

Triumph has launched the 2021 Speed Twin in India at Rs 10,99,000 (ex-showroom India). Wondering what’s new in this updated iteration? Check out all the details in our launch report here. This 1200cc naked roadster is a more comfortable but equally competent iteration of Triumph’s sportier Thruxton R. The BS6 Speed Twin was unveiled globally in June.  

The 2021 Triumph Speed Twin is powered by a Euro 5/BS6-compliant 1200cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that churns out 100PS (3PS more than before) at 7250rpm and an identical 112Nm, but coming in at 500 revs less, at 4250rpm, paired with a 6-speed slip-assist gearbox. 

Suspension bits include an updated 43mm Marzocchi inverted front fork with cartridge damping and a pair of shock absorbers with adjustable preload at the rear. Triumph has equipped the bike with larger twin 320mm discs, with more premium Brembo M50 radial calipers up front. The rear continues with the same 220mm disc held by a Nissin two-piston caliper. Instead of the Pirelli Diablo Rosso III, the 2021 model rolls on Metzeler Racetec RR tyres wrapped on new 17-inch alloy wheels. 

The 2021 Triumph Speed Twin will primarily compete with the BMW RnineT. Another alternative would be the Ducati Scrambler 1100.

Overview

Triumph has added yet another model to its Modern Classics range by taking the wraps off the new Speed Twin. The new bike pays homage to the 1938 Triumph Speed Twin which was known for its performance and handling. In fact, Triumph claimed the first Speed Twin was the first real ‘riders bike’ ever. The new Speed Twin tries to keep alive the sporty traditions with a performance-oriented mechanical setup and mean roadster looks. It is the Thruxton (the base variant, not the racy R) underneath this whole roadster garb with a revised ergo setup. The 1200cc motor appears in the High Power trim as the Thruxton, making 97PS and 112Nm in the process. The roadster goes on sale in European markets in January, 2019. This is definitely something that Triumph will be looking to get to our shores with a tentative launch date of May-June 2019. Expect it to carry a price tag of Rs 10 lakh.

    Powerful Modern Retro Beast
    Got this a month back and since then, have been crushing on it every day. Do not hesitate in choosing this if you are looking for a powerful bike with a retro yet modern machine. It is so subtle and beautiful that you will keep admiring it. Performance-wise, this is the best that you can ask for city and highway rides.
