SR Storm Expert Review
Overview
The Aprilia SR Storm 125 is a sporty scooter from Aprilia and is the cheapest Aprilia scooter in India. Though it is from the SR series, the SR Storm is different from the Aprilia SR 125 with its sporty graphics, different engine and chunkier, block-pattern tyres.
Design
While sharing the same family lineage, the Aprilia SR Storm 125 gets a bodywork similar to the SR 160 but stands out with unique graphics and wider tyres. The sleek apron-mounted LED headlight goes well with the scooter's slim and sporty body design. The inclusion of chunky block-pattern tyres, combined with distinctive graphics, give a rugged appearance to the scooter.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The Aprilia SR Storm 125 is powered by a 124.49cc air-cooled 3-valve single-cylinder engine, producing 9.92PS at 7,700rpm and 9.7Nm at 6,000rpm. Paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the engine is reasonably refined and offers adequate power. However, achieving higher speeds requires aggressive use of the throttle, especially at higher revs.
While the engine performance is generally very good, there is room for improvement in fuel injection calibration. At times, the revs stay up even after the throttle is closed, leading to unintended acceleration.
Handling & Ride Quality
The SR Storm handles well, although its wider tyres result in less sharpness and agility than the SR 160. Adjusting to the slightly heavier feel in corners may take some time, but as you become used to it, the Storm's confidence and precision can really be felt. Negotiating small bumps and potholes is smooth, although at higher speeds the impact of larger bumps can be felt. Notably, with a passenger on board, the scooter is stable even on uneven and bumpy roads.
Comfort
The seat of the Aprilia SR Storm is quite firm, and may cause discomfort during extended rides. Additionally, the rear grab rail is not very conveniently positioned compared to the SR 160. The combination of smaller wheels and adjusted suspension results in a lowered scooter, offering a lower seat height of 775mm, which makes it very accessible for shorter riders.
Features
The SR Storm is equipped with a semi-digital instrument console from the SR 160. It displays speed through the analogue section and provides readings such as a trip meter, fuel gauge, and time on the digital display. The scooter is fitted with a 6.5-litre fuel tank.
However, the SR Storm lacks several features found in its rivals, such as a multifunction key slot for ignition and boot opening, an external fuel filler, a USB charging socket, and a boot lamp. It does not include a silent starter and more importantly, there is no smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation either.
Should you buy
While the Aprilia SR Storm may not have as many features as some other 125cc scooters, its unique design will attract many enthusiasts. Besides, riders can appreciate its better riding experience compared to the SR, offering greater comfort and ease of use. As a result, despite its relatively higher cost compared to its rivals, the SR Storm stands out as a good choice for those seeking a stylish Italian scooter capable of tackling a variety of road conditions.
