About Hero Mavrick 440

Last Updated 11 Days back

Hero has unveiled an updated Mavrick 440 at the EICMA 2024. It comes with an inverted fork and a TFT instrument console, and it could be launched in India very soon.

How much does the Hero Mavrick 440 cost?

The Hero Mavrick 440’s base variant costs Rs 1,99,000, the mid-spec variant costs Rs 2,14,000 and the top-end variant costs Rs 2,24,000 (all ex-showroom Delhi).

How many variants does the Mavrick 440 have and what are its colour options?

The Hero Mavrick 440 is available in three variants: Base, Mid and Top. The base variant is available in a single colour scheme called Arctic White and gets spoke wheels with tubed tyres. The Mid variant is available in two colour schemes: Fearless Red and Celestial Blue while the Top variant gets two colour options called Phantom Black and Enigma Black. The Mid and Top variants get alloy wheels with tubeless tyres.

How is the Hero Mavrick 440’s performance?

The Hero Mavrick 440’s engine is very refined and offers good torque. Because of its good bottom-end grunt, you can roam around in the city at speeds of 35-40kmph in 5th gear easily. The power delivery is smooth and the motor can hold speeds of 100-110kmph easily. Also, the clutch action from the lever is pretty light. So, even though the Mavrick 440 is not an out-and-out performance bike, it still offers spirited performance to a degree to make it a fun riding experience.

Is the Hero Mavrick a cruiser bike?

The Hero Mavrick 440 is not a cruiser bike but more of a neo-retro roadster. It gets some retro touches in its styling and is well complemented by the round headlight. Unlike a cruiser, it has an upright riding stance with mid-set footpegs which translates into overall comfortable ergonomics. The Mavrick 440 feels effortless to cruise with on the highway due to its engine’s smooth performance, ability to handle triple-digit speeds easily, good handling characteristics and very comfortable riding experience.

Is the Hero Mavrick 440 a good city bike?

The 440cc SOHC single-cylinder engine of the Hero Mavrick 440 is very tractable, meaning you can commute at speeds of 35-40kmph in 4th or 5th gear comfortably. This makes the bike especially easy to ride in the city as you don’t need to do rapid gear changes all the time. The power delivery is very smooth and there are no vibrations that can be felt at city speeds. The 803mm seat height makes the bike quite accessible and easy to quickly get your feet on the ground - something that helps in stop-go traffic conditions. Also, the bike feels pretty nimble on the move, making it easy to zip in and out of traffic and the suspension setup is very pliant, soaking up bumps and potholes without any fuss. So, considering all these factors, the Hero Mavrick 440 is a good city bike.

Is the Mavrick 440 good for long rides and touring?

The refined engine of the Mavrick 440 provides smooth power delivery and it can hold speeds of 100-110kmph in sixth gear effortlessly. Slight vibrations are felt at the bars and the footpegs past those speeds, but those are not at all a deal breaker. Even at 120kmph, the engine doesn’t give the sensation that it is running out of breath. Thanks to the slip-and-assist clutch, the clutch action is light and you can even operate the lever with one finger at times. The agile handling characteristics make it fun to ride around corners.

The upright and relaxed ergonomics along with the pliant suspension setup make the Mavrick 440 a very comfortable bike to ride. The suspension setup soaks up all the undulations on the road perfectly and provides quite a comfortable riding experience. So, the smooth engine performance, agile handling characteristics and comfortable riding experience make the Mavrick 440 a good choice for long rides and touring.

Is the Mavrick 440 comfortable?

The Mavrick 440 has very relaxed ergonomics. The footpegs are mid-set and low, so even taller riders won’t feel their legs being cramped. Shorter riders might feel a slight stretch to reach to the handlebar, but it shouldn’t be a deal breaker. The 803mm seat height should enable riders of all heights to place their feet flat on the ground when stopped. The suspension setup consists of a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers and  provides a very comfortable riding experience. So, all in all, the Mavrick 440 is a pretty comfortable bike to ride.

What features does the Mavrick 440 get?

All variants of the Hero Mavrick 440 come equipped with a negatively-lit LCD instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation and call and SMS alerts. The console shows readouts such as a clock, speedometer, odometer, tachometer, trip meter, low fuel indicator, distance to empty, estimated time of arrival (ETA), and a phone battery indicator. The top end variant also gets e-Sim connectivity, giving access to live tracking and other features. The bike gets all-LED lighting with a dynamic LED projector headlight that lights up automatically depending on the ambient lighting.

Is the Hero Mavrick 440 worth buying?

The Hero Mavrick 440 looks quite understated. . It has adequate performance for all intents and purposes, good handling characteristics and provides a very comfortable riding experience. The Mavrick is  good to ride in the city and also on the highway.  If you don’t want to spend too much on a performance-oriented bike, then the Hero Mavrick 440 is a good option for you.

Hero Mavrick 440 Expert Review

BikeDekho Experts
You’d get the Hero for its sense of security -- easy access to service centres, its affordability and the fact that it is an excellent rough road commuter which also keeps the pillion happy. However, while it is quite a likeable motorcycle, it fails to invoke any strong emotion in you to aspire to own it.

Overview

The Hero Mavrick 440 is the flagship product of the Jaipur-based manufacturer and features the same engine as the Harley-Davidson X440 but in a different state of tune. Let’s have a look at what the Hero Mavrick 440 has to offer in this fiercely competitive environment:

Design

The Hero Mavrick gets a neo-retro design language. The large-looking tank and the extensions make the bike look big and imposing from the front. The round LED headlamp, round indicators, and the plain black exhaust gives the bike a retro appeal to it. That being said, the Hero Mavrick’s design is a bit too plain and won't stand out in a sea of motorcycles.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

The Hero Mavrick gets a 440cc single-cylinder air & oil-cooled engine that makes 27PS at 6,000rpm and 36Nm at 4,000rpm and gets a 6-speed gearbox. The long-stroke motor is very tractable and makes of its torque in the lower rev range which gives an excellent performance at city speeds. The bike holds triple-digit speeds in the 6th gear without much trouble. The refinement level is quite good and vibrations do not hinder the experience during long rides.

Handling & Ride Quality

The Hero Mavrick, despite its 187kg kerb weight, is very nimble and agile to handle. The wide handlebar and forward-set footpegs allows the bike to cut through traffic without much trouble. The bike tips into corners easily and handles quite well. The brakes on the Mavrick have a nice initial bike to them and gets the bike to stopwithout breaking a sweat.

The suspension is well-tuned, absorbs bumps and potholes very well. The suspension keeps the bike planted on the road at triple-digit speeds just like how a cruiser would, which increases the confidence to ride the motorcycle for longer distances.

Comfort

The wide handlebar and the forward-set footpegs gives the bike a very comfortable riding posture and is not as committed as a super-sport or even a naked motorcycle. You would enjoy riding the Mavrick in the city as the seat is soft, this is also the Achilles heel of the Mavrick for longer rides as you would prefer a firmer seat.

Features

The Hero Mavrick 440 has a negatively-lit LCD console. The console is quite difficult to read, especially the tachometer as the brightness is less. The mid and top-end variant gets connected features such as turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, etc. The console could have been a lot better with a cleaner layout and increased brightness.

Should you buy

The Hero Mavrick is a great package for the price it comes at. The design and build quality is quite good while the performance is decent but won't make your hats fly off. The easy-going and linear acceleration is something that newer riders would appreciate. If you are someone who is coming from a 150cc commuter segment and looking for their first bike above 400cc, the Hero Mavrick is a great choice. But if you are an intermediate rider who has previously ridden bikes above 250cc, the Mavrick is not a good option as the performance it offers is not up to the mark of other 400cc bikes.

Hero Mavrick 440 Pros and Cons

Things We Like

  • Ergonomics - You sit naturally on the bike in a relaxed manner.
  • Comfort - The suspension absorbs most of the harshness of the bumps and keeps you comfortable and planted.
  • Pillion Comfort - The comfortable seat, accessory backrest and comfortable suspension keeps pillions happy.

Things We Don't Like

  • Instrument Cluster - Feels dated and does not offer good legibility under direct sunlight.
  • Road Presence - The motorcycle’s design is a bit too plain and won’t stand out in a sea of other better looking motorcycles in the market.
  • Lacks Aspiration - While the Mavrick is a likeable motorcycle, it lacks the sense of emotional connect that makes you want to get one as soon as you look at it.
