2017 Yamaha YZF-R6 First Picture Leaked

Published On Aug 17, 2016 11:11 AM By Naveen Soni for Yamaha YZF R1

The 2017 model of the middleweight supersport Yamaha R6 will be inspired by the 2015 Yamaha R1.

Like every other manufacturer Yamaha is also in the process of updating its middleweight supersport machine for the upcoming Euro IV emission standards. However, this Japanese automaker seems to be taking this upgrade so seriously that it is coming with an all-new YZF-R6 for the year 2017. A picture of the upcoming bike has been leaked on the internet and the new model has been completely restyled with inspiration from its elder sibling, the 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1.

Honda and Triumph have already reported discontinuing the current model of their middleweight supersports i.e. the CBR600RR and the Daytona 675 respectively. There are some rumours about Triumph bringing in a new Daytona 765. But there is no update from Honda about a replacement for its 600cc supersport. According to the company, the reason for discontinuing the bike is falling popularity of the 600cc class, while the development process requires a lot of investments and efforts. So at this time, news about the upcoming Yamaha comes as a breather in the industry.

The 2017 Yamaha YZF-R6 will be the sixth generation of the bike after its inception in 1999 and the first major update since the current model was launched in 2008. The fuel tank and rear of the upcoming bike looks much similar to the new R1, while the front gets a completely new design. The newly designed fairing gets CFD winglets protruding from the nose, LED projector lights and air intake scoops on the front, while the vents are near the fuel tank. Looking at the current model's output, we can expect around 130PS from the new model. Right now, we don't have any further detail about the new Yamaha R6, however, it is speculated to be unveiled by the end of 2016.
