We expect the motorcycle to be priced around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom India), which is about Rs 2 lakh more expensive than the base variant of the outgoing model. Unofficial bookings have already commenced at select dealerships. The token amount ranges from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh depending on the dealership.
The German brand has made a host of changes to make the motorcycle even fiercer on the track. For starters, the 2019 iteration comes with the new BMW ShiftCam technology which is basically a variable valve system. This ensures the best balance of low-end grunt and top-end performance.

The engine has been tweaked with a number of lightweight components, making it 4kg lighter than the older motor. It produces 206.6PS of power at a dizzying 13,500rpm and 113Nm at 11,000rpm. This makes the new bike more powerful than the older one by 8.1PS. What’s even more interesting is that BMW has managed to reduced the kerb weight of the 2019 model by a whole 11kg, at 197kg kerb!
The motorcycle is reined in by a plethora of electronics like IMU-based cornering ABS, dynamic traction control, and four riding modes: Road, Rain, Dynamic & Race. The 2019 model also comes with a complete design overhaul and the famous asymmetrical headlights have been replaced by sleek-looking symmetrical LED units. It also features a modern 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth pairing capability in place of the old-school semi-digital unit. For more intuitive control of the menu, the bike also packs a multi-controller on the left switchgear.

When launched, the 2019 BMW S 1000 RR will compete against the Yamaha YZF-R1, Ducati Panigale V4, Honda CBR1000RR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory. We will be riding the new BMW motorcycle at the Buddh International Circuit soon, so stay tuned for our first ride review!
