2019 BMW S 1000 RR: Photo Gallery
Feast your eyes on our detailed gallery of BMW’s top-of-the-line track tamer
BMW Motorrad recently launched the 2019 S 1000 RR in India, starting at Rs 18.5 lakh for the base variant. The mid-spec version, called the BMW S 1000 RR Pro costs Rs 20.95 lakh, whereas the top-end S 1000 RR Pro M Sport will set you back by Rs 22.95 lakh (all ex-showroom Delhi). We got to sample the top-of-the-line variant at the Buddh International Circuit and our review will be out pretty soon! Until then, here’s a look at this delectable litre-class supersport from Germany in detailed shots.
The 2019 BMW S 1000 RR Pro M Sport variant features an exclusive BMW Motorsport-inspired M badging complementing the livery. This variant is also lighter than the standard model by 3.5kg, and gets a lighter lithium-ion battery, carbon fibre wheels and Riding Modes Pro (includes three more rider modes) among others.
The front fascia looks much more compact, thanks to the new symmetrical design language. We’d have liked the asymmetrical headlamp design, but BMW never had form on its priority list. The brand has gone with the new LED headlamps because they are much more compact and lighter, compared to the halogen setup.
The 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster displays an array of detailed information like lap times, range, gear position, details about the rider aids among others. One can also reconfigure how the screen looks using the layout presets.
You can navigate through the menu using the new multi-controller, which is essentially a scroll wheel on the left handlebar.
The Pro M Sport variant features an M seat which comes with a slip-resistant cover and a harder foam material for more focussed riding. It is available in three seat heights, 814mm, 824mm and 849mm as options.
BMW Motorrad has integrated the tail light within the indicator housing. So when you’re heading to the track, you can remove the tail panel altogether for even greater weight savings. Also, the front indicators are mounted on the rearview mirrors which can be also removed for your track outings.
The 999cc inline-four engine has been made narrower and lighter than its predecessor by 4kg. It comes with the new BMW ShiftCam technology which is essentially a variable valve timing feature. With this, it produces 8.1PS more than the earlier generation bike, at 207PS. Peak torque of 113Nm arrives at 11,000rpm. Also, BMW Motorrad has retained the ‘gills’ on the fairing which is claimed to improve engine cooling by around 10 per cent.
The engine works in conjunction with a 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. BMW Motorrad offers a bi-directional quickshifter as standard.
Up front, the 2019 BMW S 1000 RR employs a fully-adjustable 45mm upside down fork. The optional Dynamic Damping Control feature fine tunes the damping in real time while you’re on the move.
Brakes include dual 320mm discs with 4-piston radial calipers at the front. The Pro M Sport features lighter carbon fibre wheels which are, in fact, claimed to be stronger than the standard forged units.
At the rear, the motorcycle employs a fully-adjustable monoshock which has been placed farther away from the engine so that the heat affecting the damping properties of the shock absorber is minimised. The Dynamic Damping Control adjusts the damping characteristics of the rear suspension as well.
The 2019 iteration also features a WSBK-inspired aluminium swingarm with trussing, which is claimed to be one of its kind in the superbike segment. It is slightly longer than its predecessor and the Pro M Sport variant also gets an adjustable swingarm pivot point.
The rear employs a 220mm disc with Brembo single-piston caliper. Cornering ABS is standard which is switched off in Race mode. So you’ll have to be careful with braking inputs while riding on the track.
