2019 Kawasaki Z400 Unveiled Globally
Apart from two new paint options, the bike remains the same as the older model
While we still are waiting for Kawasaki to launch the Z400 in India, the Japanese manufacturer has taken the wraps off the 2019 iteration of the motorcycle abroad. Apart from the addition of two new paint schemes -- black/orange and black/green -- the motorcycle remains the same as the older model.
The Z400 is essentially a Ninja 400 sans the fairing and sportier stance. Both motorcycles are powered by the same 399cc, parallel-twin motor which belts out 49PS of power and 38Nm of torque at 8000rpm. They share the same suspension setup as well - a telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear.
As of now, there’s still no word from the company about its India debut. However, we expect Kawasaki to launch it either by the end of this year or during the first half of next year. Expect it to be priced at Rs 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom), which should make it Rs 50,000 more affordable than the fully faired variant.
However, now that the Z250 is not on sale anymore, Kawasaki doesn’t have a sports naked in the sub-500cc category. We have already seen how quickly this particular segment has gained popularity thanks to the likes of the KTM 390 Duke, BMW G 310 R and the Honda CB300R. The new Yamaha MT-03 could also make its way down to our country soon, adding another rival to the Z400’s list. However, it remains to be seen whether the Z400, with its expensive price tag, will be a chartbuster or not.
