2019 Triumph Street Twin and Street Scrambler Launched In India
The entry-level Bonneville offerings are now priced even lower than their previous iterations
Triumph’s Valentine surprise this year includes two new motorcycles for our market. The 2019 Street Twin and Street Scrambler have been launched at Rs 7.45 lakh and 8.55 lakh (ex-showroom, India) respectively. This is Rs 25,000 less than the 2018 Street Twin and Rs 5,000 less than the outgoing Street Scrambler.
For the premium, Triumph has made very subtle cosmetic changes. You get a redesigned Triumph logo on the fuel tank and side panels. And the Street Scrambler gets a two-tone paint finish on the fuel tank. Other touches include refreshed instrument console, brushed aluminium headlamp brackets and new cast aluminium machined alloy wheels on the Street Twin.

Major changes lie in the mechanical side of things. The 900cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor gets a lighter magnesium cover, lighter clutch and crankshaft. It also gets a balancer shaft for improved refinement. Power has been bumped up from 55PS to 65PS. Torque output remains the same at 80Nm. On the Street Twin, however, peak torque is delivered at 3800rpm instead of the previous 3200rpm. Lighter engine internals has allowed Triumph to increase the rev limit by 500rpm, to 7500rpm. Electronic updates include two new rider modes: Road and Rain and an additional 'Off-road' mode on the Street Scrambler. The switchable traction control from the outgoing models has been carried over.

Another major improvement is in the chassis department. The seat height has gone up by 10mm thanks to extra padding. Both bikes now get new 41mm KYB front forks that get internal cartridge damping units. The Street Scrambler now gets wider spaced front forks. This upgrade in suspension should result in a smoother ride. The rear still gets a conventional KYB monoshock. Braking receives a boost, thanks to new Brembo four-piston front caliper instead of the previous Nissin two-piston caliper. While the rear Nissin calliper remains unchanged, surprisingly the Street Twin now gets a smaller 220mm rear disc instead of the previous 255mm rear disc. Both the bikes get ABS, but you can switch it off on the Street Scrambler. You also have an optional tyre pressure monitoring system.

The Street Twin has no direct competition, but the Street Scrambler faces heat from the Ducati Scrambler Icon that will be updated soon. These are the first two bikes from Triumph this year. The bikemaker will also launch the Scrambler 1200 and Speed Twin next month.
