For 2020, the 401 twins get new colours and better comfort

[Update: Husqvarna Vitpilen 250, Svartpilen 250 Launched In India]

Gets a longer subframe and pillion seat.  Updated with new colours and graphics. Yet to be updated with a Euro-5 motor. Expected to launch in India by mid-2020

Husqvarna has showcased the MY2020 models of the Svartpilen 401 scrambler and the Vitpilen 401 cafe racer at EICMA. For 2020, the motorcycles offer better ergonomics and a more premium look. Husqvarna was set to launch the 2019 edition of both motorcycles in India through KTM dealerships. Some KTM dealers had already started accepting unofficial bookings for the same. However, the launch was delayed owing to the upcoming BS6 emission norms.

The biggest update for the 2020 models is the extended rear subframe. The previous models had a tiny pillion seat. The rear subframe is now 40mm longer and both motorcycles now get a larger, more comfortable seat. Even the rider seat appears to be scooped out, which could mean a lower seat height. It also gets a longer front and rear mudguard. Cosmetic updates include new paint options and altered graphics. The fuel tank now gets a large 401 sticker instead of the Husqvarna name. Even the exhaust end can gets a satin black finish. So the Husqvarna 401 models now look more premium than sporty.

The underpinnings and powertrain remain unchanged. Both the Svartpilen 401 and the Vitpilen 401 get the same Euro-4 373cc motor and six-speed gearbox as the KTM 390 Duke. It delivers the same 44PS and 37Nm as before. Both bikes continue to use the trellis frame setup with upside-down forks and monoshock.

We expect KTM to launch a Euro-5/BS6 variant of the KTM 390 Duke soon. This new motor is expected to debut on the MY 2020 Husqvarna 401 models soon. Both Husqvarnas could launch in India with BS6 engines by mid-2020. The Vitpilen 401 is expected to be priced close to Rs 3.20 lakh (ex-showroom) while the Svartpilen 401 could cost around Rs 3.30 lakh (ex-showroom).
