[UPDATE: 2020 Triumph Street Triple R Launched In India, head here to check it out.]

The Street Triple ‘R’ sits in between the A2 licence-friendly ‘S’ variant and the top-spec ‘RS’

Design-wise, it looks similar to the Street Triple RS. Packs a retuned BS6-compliant 765cc motor producing 118PS and 77Nm. Gets a bi-directional quickshifter as part of the standard equipment.

Sources suggest the Triumph Street Triple R is likely to be launched next week. The mid-spec Street Triple R sits in between the A2 licence-friendly ‘S’ variant and the flagship ‘RS’ model. It looks just as juicy as the RS, in fact, a bit more sinister thanks to the new black livery. While it packs the same BS6-compliant 765cc motor, it's a bit more docile compared to the RS.

To jump right into it, the Street Triple R is powered by a 765cc motor that's been retuned to make 118PS of peak power and 77Nm of maximum torque -- 5PS and 2Nm less than the Triple RS. It retains the 6-speed transmission and gets a bi-directional quickshifter as standard.

There is a difference in the bike’s braking setup as well. Instead of the M50, the Street Triple R employs M4.32 Brembo calipers mated to twin 310mm discs. The rear gets a 220mm disc clamped by a single-pot Brembo caliper. Notably, the 2020 Street Triple R gets a 45mm lower seat option (compared to the standard model) which is achieved by lowering the suspension. Speaking of which, it comes with a fully adjustable 41mm fork and a monoshock with a piggyback reservoir, both from Showa.

Having said that, it isn’t all that impressive on the feature front. The Street Triple R comes equipped with a semi-digital instrument console that’s been carried over from the previous-gen model. You get three ride modes: Road, Rain and Sport, a fuel gauge, trip computer, analogue tachometer, lap timer, gear position indicator, programmable gear change lights, and a clock.

The 2020 Triumph Street Triple R is positioned to be more accessible and affordable than the flagship RS. Expect the bike to be priced around Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom) which will put it squarely against the Kawasaki Z900, KTM 790 Duke, Yamaha MT-09, and the Ducati Monster 821.
