Debuted in the Yamaha FZS FI Dark Knight variant, the smartphone connectivity feature, called the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect X, is more of a rudimentary setup compared to more advanced consoles on the TVS NTorq 125 and the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V. It uses the smartphone app to access and control features such as Answer Back, Driving History, Locate My Bike, E-Lock, Hazard Lamps, and Parking Record. If you’re buying the more affordable FZ Fi, you can get smartphone connectivity as an optional fitment, at Rs 3,000.
Another big change is in the kerb weight. While the earlier BS6 version tipped the scales at 137kg kerb, the 2021 model weighs 135kg. Yamaha says the exhaust system in the FZ has been tuned for a better aural note. The Yamaha FZ FI is available in two colours: Racing Blue and Metallic Black while the FZS FI is offered in five: Matte Red (new), Dark Matte Blue, Matte Black, Dark Knight and Vintage Edition.
The rest of the mechanicals have remained unchanged in both the variants. The two bikes share a 149cc air-cooled fuel-injected engine good for 12.4PS at 7,250rpm and 13.3Nm at 5500rpm. These figures aren’t really on par with its rivals in the 160cc streetfighter segment. Hopefully, the addition of the new features should help the bike have an edge over its competitors like the Suzuki Gixxer, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Honda X-Blade, and Bajaj Pulsar NS160.
