2021 Yamaha Tracer 9, Tracer 9 GT: Image Gallery

This isn’t just a cosmetic makeover, the 2021 Yamaha Tracer 9 is an all-new motorcycle

Sport touring, as a genre, has been around for a couple of years now but it's still considered as a niche market. The genre combines the performance of a sportbike with long-distance capabilities and comfortable ergonomics. Manufacturers like KTMBMW, Kawasaki and Yamaha already have product offerings in this segment.

As 2021 closes in, brands have started rolling out the next iteration of sport-tourers, the Yamaha Tracer 9 being the most recent one. It’s all-new for 2021 featuring a new chassis, motor and electronics. So here’s a complete lowdown of the bike through detailed images.

Yamaha’s MT pedigree is pretty evident in the Tracer 9. You have similar LED DRLs, a muscular tank and an LED tail light. The twin LED headlight setup too is the same as the YZF-R6 or R1. What sets the Tracer apart is its fairing and a tall windscreen which helps fend off wind blasts. Additionally, the GT gets cornering lights which can be quite useful when you lean into a corner at night.

Ergonomically, it’s a lot more comfortable than its naked and faired cousins. You sit upright with just the right amount of lean towards the handlebars and your feet set rearward.

The split seat too seems to be well cushioned for both rider and pillion. Besides, several adjustment settings make the bike even more practical. The seat has a tool-less two-position height adjuster, and the footpegs can be raised or lowered by 15mm. You also have two handlebar mounting choices. Same goes for the windscreen which can be adjusted to suit your height.

The new split 3.5-inch multi-function TFT screens are tastefully done. They’ve been designed specifically to segregate critical information from functional operational info. The left screen displays key info such as speed, fuel, gear position, traction control etc., while the right screen splits into four separate sections offering a range of secondary information.

The Tracer 9 is powered by a new Euro-5 890cc, 3-cylinder engine that delivers 119PS at 10000rpm (4PS more than before) and 93Nm at 7000rpm (1500rpm lower than before). Its 6-speed transmission comes with a bi-directional quickshifter and a slip & assist clutch.

In terms of electronic rider aids, the Tracer 9 features traction, slide and wheelie control, cruise and brake control, and four riding modes, all of which are monitored by a 6-axis IMU. All parameters are adjustable via the left-hand-side switchgear control cubes.

The frame has been redesigned to be much smaller than the outgoing version. Yamaha says it offers a better front-end feel.

Its swingarm is 2.4 inches longer than the MT-09. The result is a 1501mm wheelbase that offers better stability.

The six-axis IMU also controls damping of the Tracer’s fully-adjustable semi-active KYB suspension. Of the two modes available, A-1 is meant of better handling while A-2 is geared towards touring comfort.

The 10-spoke spin-forged aluminium wheels on the TRACER 9 are 700g lighter than before, resulting in better agility. They come wrapped with Dunlop Sportmax GPR-100 tyres.

Yamaha provides hard side cases and grip warmers as part of the standard equipment on the Tracer 9 GT. Each case can accommodate a full-face helmet, says Yamaha.

The top-of-the-line Yamaha Tracer 9 GT is priced at $14,899 (Rs 11.04 lakh) -- $1900 (Rs. 1.4 lakh) more expensive than the standard than the Tracer 9. At present, Yamaha has no plans of bringing the 2021 Tracer 9 to India.
