2021 Yamaha Xmax Maxi Scooter Launched In Japan
The 2021 iteration of the 250cc maxi scooter gets subtle updates at no extra cost
Yamaha has introduced the 2021 Xmax, its 250cc maxi scooter, in Japan at JPY 654,500 (about Rs 4.35 lakh). The scooter, which will be available from July 28, is priced the same as before but gets subtle updates.
For 2021, Yamaha has retained the ‘Matte Dark Purplish Blue Metallic 5’ colour scheme and added three new options -- Matte bluish Gray Metallic 3 (with blue alloy wheels), Pastel Dark Gray, and Matte Dark Gray Metallic 8 (with gold alloys). Yamaha has also bettered the LED illumination and revised the seat texture for extra comfort.
There has been no other mechanical change. Still, as per the WMTC cycle, the 2021 XMax returns a claimed mileage of 33.8kmpl, slightly less than the 2020 model’s claimed figure of 34.5kmpl. The maxi scooter continues to be powered by a Euro 5-compliant 249cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine churning out 23PS at 7000rpm and 24Nm at 5500rpm. There’s a traction control system thrown in for good measure.

It uses disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS as standard. Key features include an all-LED headlamp and tail lamp, a twin-pod analogue instrument cluster with a multifunction LCD display in the middle, an adjustable windshield, twin apron-mounted compartments with a DC jack on the left one, a smart key system, and a massive 45-litre LED-lit underseat storage.
Yamaha is unlikely to launch this maxi scooter in India due to cost constraints, but we hope the Japanese brand brings the smaller Nmax 155 to our shores soon. It was planned for a launch here till the changing emission norms and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic disrupted the brand’s plans. Also, in related news, Yamaha has confirmed the launch of its first neo-retro bike in India, the Yamaha FZ-X. You can read all about it in our report.
