2022 Honda CBR650R Launched, Costlier by Rs 47,427

The bike gets refreshed graphics but remains the same as its predecessor in terms of mechanicals and features

The 2022 Honda CBR650R continues to be available in two shades: Grand Prix Red and Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic. Only the graphics see a subtle revision on both colour variants. Costs Rs 9,35,427 (ex-showroom Gurugram).

The 2022 Honda CBR650R has been launched in India with small graphics updates and a large price hike. The 650cc Japanese supersport now costs Rs 9,35,427 (ex-showroom, Gurugram), making it Rs 47,427 more expensive than the 2021 model. That’s a lot considering the bike is sold via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route. Bookings are now open at all Honda BigWing Topline showrooms across the country.

All you get for such a large premium is subtle graphics updates on both the Grand Prix Red and Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic colour variants. The red one gets more prominent black and grey graphics with subtle white highlights, whereas the black colour model now gets orange highlights instead of the red ones.

Other than these changes, the rest of the motorcycle is the same as the 2021 model. The bike continues to be powered by a 648.72cc inline four-cylinder engine churning out 87PS at 12,000rpm and 57.5Nm at 8500rpm, working alongside a 6-speed slip-assist gearbox. There are no sophisticated electronics other than the traction control system and dual-channel ABS.

The motorcycle employs an inverted Showa Separate Function Fork Big Piston (SFF-BP) unit up front and a preload adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking is via twin 310mm front discs with radial calipers and a 240mm rear disc. Other notable features include an LCD multifunction instrument cluster, all-LED lighting, engine immobiliser, and a USB type-C charging port under the seat.

We wish Honda had equipped the motorcycle with a proper TFT instrument console with navigation. That would’ve justified the hefty premium at least to a certain extent. If you’re looking for alternatives, then the Kawasaki Ninja 650, retailing at a more affordable Rs 6.68 lakh (ex-showroom, India), is a great feature-packed choice. You could also take a look at the Aprilia RS 660, priced much higher, at 13.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
