2023 Yamaha R125 Revealed: Baby R Wants To Follow In The R1’s Footsteps

Modified On Nov 4, 2022 01:10 PM By Ishan Lee for Yamaha R15 V4

It may be the smallest ‘R’ in Yamaha’s lineup, but it’s packing some serious heat

The 2023 Yamaha R125 has broken cover and the update is significant. Yamaha has taken the smallest R-series supersport in its lineup and given it the same treatment as we have seen on the latest R15 V4. Which means, it looks like a scaled-down R7, packs better tech, and minor improvements here and there make it an evolution over the outgoing model.

Here’s a quick glance at what’s new:

New R-Series design.

New R7-inspired, bi-functional LED headlight and LED DRLs.

New 5-inch TFT instrument cluster with switchable themes.

New programmable shift-light and RPM range (why doesn’t the R15 V4 get this?).

Bluetooth connectivity.

Traction control system.

R1-inspired triple clamp and handlebar switches.

Comes pre-wired for a quickshifter system.

While India may never get to experience the R125, the R15 has been revered for over a decade because it continues to set new benchmarks in small capacity performance biking. The R15 V4 has been nothing short of impressive and Yamaha’s ability to continually evolve these pocket rockets is astounding. That said, does traction control on a 125cc supersport feel a bit of an overkill?

If the R15 V4 is anything to go by, the 2023 R125 will be a hoot, no doubt about that! The motorcycle is said to hit European markets in the first quarter of next year. Lastly we can expect the TFT display to make its way on to the India-spec R15 V4 some time next year.
