Ather 340 And 450: Pricing Explained
Interested in owning the future-ready scooter? Here’s everything you need to know
After a lot of anticipation, Ather has finally launched not one, but two electric scooters: the Ather 340 and the 450, priced at Rs 1.09 lakh and Rs 1.24 lakh (on-road Bengaluru) respectively. This makes them the most expensive scooters in India.
Yes, the pricing might seem a bit steep, especially when you compare them to conventional scooters, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. This price includes standard installation costs, a charging cable and a year's worth of subscription of Rs 9912 (incl GST). Ather will also provide the first lot of customers home charging units called ‘The Point’. However, with the 340 you get just a regular wall-mounted socket, whereas with the 450 you get Ather’s exclusive charging point.

Why do I need this subscription?
For starters, you get to avail free fast charging at any of the AtherGrid points located in the city. However, if you wish to charge at your home, Ather will reimburse you the amount spent on charging the scooter at home, every three months via a payment wallet.
What else do I get?
Besides free charging, the subscription also covers all maintenance work, including RSA. This means everything from labour charges to replacement of parts under regular maintenance will be covered by Ather.
Oh okay...
Wait, that's not it. Under this subscription, you also get data services like navigation, vehicle diagnostics and OTA (Over The Air) updates, which are essential if you want the best of the bells and whistles the Ather scooter has to offer.
What is it going to cost me?
For the first year, every customer will be entitled to a free subscription (covered in the purchase price). Once that is over you can opt for a yearly or a quarterly plan. The annual plan will set you back by Rs 9912, while the quarterly plan will cost Rs 2832 (both, incl. 18 per cent GST).
Is it mandatory to opt for the subscription?
It’s included in your purchase price, for the first year, in any case. But if you so want, you certainly have the option not to opt for the subscription going forward. However, that essentially means you lose most of the features and end up with just the Ather electric scooter and little support.
