Bajaj Auto has acquired the rights to the ‘Vincent’ name. Vincent Motorcycles was a British manufacturer from 1928 to 1955, post which heavy financial losses forced them to discontinue motorcycle production.

Now, while Vincent wasn’t as big a name as Triumph, Norton or BSA, it was still fairly big in the British motorcycling industry. It was a frequent contender in the prestigious Isle of Man races, and  two of its bikes – the Black Shadow and Black Lightning – were among the fastest bikes of their time. 

Interestingly, the Pune-based manufacturer has also tied up with another British manufacturer, Triumph, for a mid-displacement roadster. It was spotted recently and it looks production-ready. But by joining hands with Vincent, Bajaj should have a stronger grip on the rapidly evolving retro segment, thus far dominated by Royal Enfield bikes.
