Bajaj Auto's Chakan Plant Strike Issue Not Resolved Yet

Modified On Aug 6, 2013 12:00 AM By Rajpal Singh for Bajaj Pulsar NS200

At one point of time the major strike of 1,500 workers at Bajaj Auto's Chakan plant seemed to have ended, but the problem has not been resolved completely. The strike was started six weeks ago, but Rajiv Bajaj took a big action on Monday to obsolete the problem. Bajaj said,"We have suffered no loss, those who are not getting their salaries have,". He also said,"I've given my team time till next Monday." If the talks fail, "we will have to shift half the production out of Chakan on a semi-permanent basis. We can't stake our sales on this one plant,". After that, he made an appeal to the workers and said,"I appeal and ask workers to come back and resume work. There is no reason not to,".

Bajaj Auto, VP, Kailash J Zanzari said that the company has been in talks with the labour union to resolve issues related to the employee stock, and wage aggrement renewal, and it's close to the settlement. He also said,"We are willing to take back seven employees who are guilty of minor offences and have had a clean track record, after a minimal suspension of four days. The other 15, however, would be investigated by an Inquiry committee and the company would act on its advice,".

After all these efforts, about 900 of the 1,500 employees at Chakan have resumed work. But still 600 employs are on strike and the plant is unable to produce its actual capacity.
