Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220, Avenger Street 160 BS6 Launched

The updated engine and larger cat-con have resulted in a price hike of up to Rs 11,500

Both cruisers retain their power figures. But there’s a minor spike in torque output. The Avenger Street 220’s pricing is yet to be revealed.

Two months ago, we had revealed that Bajaj had started dispatching BS6-compliant versions of its Avenger range of cruisers to its dealerships. We then uncovered their power figures which thankfully, hadn’t been affected by the updates required to meet stringent BS6 emission norms. And now, Bajaj has officially launched the Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220 and Avenger Street 160 in their BS6 formats. The former is priced at Rs 1,16,672 while the latter retails at Rs 94,893 (both ex-showroom Delhi). That’s a price hike of Rs 11,584 and Rs 11,642, respectively. 

Oddly enough, the Bajaj Avenger Street 220’s price hasn’t been revealed, which could mean that it may have been pulled off the shelf. Either way, we’ll be sure to let you know once we get word from the manufacturer. 

The larger Avenger is powered by a 220cc fuel-injected BS6-compliant engine that puts out 19.03PS at 8500rpm. However, its peak torque output is now rated at 17.55Nm (up by 0.05Nm) at 7000rpm. What hasn’t changed is the 5-speed transmission. That said, the Avenger Cruise 220 now weighs 163kg (kerb) as opposed to the BS4 model’s 159kg. This could be due to the additional equipment needed to meet the new emission guidelines.

The same goes for Avenger Street 160. It uses the same 160cc engine as before, albeit with the addition of fuel-injection. The result is the same power output -- 15PS at 8500rpm, but a minor spike in torque -- 13.7Nm (up by 0.02Nm) at 7000rpm. And much like its elder sibling, the Avenger Street 160 has put on some holiday weight as well. It now tips the scales at 156kg kerb, 2kg more than its BS4 counterpart.

While most of the hardware on both bikes remain the same as before, they do get an upgraded front brake. The BS6 Avenger Cruise 220 and Street 160 feature a larger 280mm front disc compared to the BS4 models’ 260mm setup. The 130mm rear drum unit remains unchanged, though. Bajaj offers single-channel ABS as standard across both bikes. Their suspension and tyre setup haven’t been tinkered with either.  

 

While most bikes in Bajaj’s portfolio are now BS6-compliant, Bajaj is yet to launch cleaner and greener versions of the V15 and Discover range.
