Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG Bike: Prices And Availability In Different States Of India

Only the top NG04 Disc LED variant is available in Gujarat and Maharashtra, whereas the drum variants will be available next month. Other states will get the CNG bike in a phased manner

Bajaj Auto has launched the Freedom 125 CNG bike at the starting price of Rs 95,000 (ex-showroom). The world’s first-ever CNG bike comes in three variants including, the base NG04 Drum, the mid NG04 Drum LED and the top NG04 Disc LED variants.

Bookings for the Freedom 125 CNG bike have started online and at Bajaj dealerships. However, only the top NG04 Disc LED variant of the bike is currently available in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat, with the NG04 Drum and NG04 Drum LED to be available in these states from August 2024. 

The Bajaj Freedom 125 will be made available in other states of India in a phased manner, by the early next quarter (between October and November 2024). While the first phase included Gujarat and Maharashtra, we expect the next phase of the launch to include Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka, as these states have the highest number of CNG fuel pumps after Gujarat.

Moreover, India currently has only 6,159 CNG stations, according to the latest December 2023 data from Vahan and the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. The government aims to increase the total number of CNG stations to 17,500 in India by 2030. To add to that, Bajaj has also partnered up with CNG and oil companies to ensure a proper availability of CNG in the states the bike is available in.

The Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG bike is equipped with a 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which is compatible with both CNG and petrol. It produces a peak CNG output of 9.5PS and 9.7Nm. The world’s first CNG-powered bike comes with two tanks: a primary 2kg CNG tank and a 2-litre petrol tank, which is there as a limp home feature, to be used when the bike runs out of CNG.

Bajaj claims the bike to provide a mileage of 102km per kg on CNG and 65kmpl on petrol, delivering a combined claimed range of about 330km. So, with a 102km per kg CNG mileage, you will only be able to ride for about 200km on a full CNG tank. This means you’ll need to visit the CNG pump more often if you’re using the bike for daily commutes. While CNG is cheaper than petrol, you’ll have to live with more frequent refuelling stops.

The Bajaj CNG bike does not have a direct competitor, but it is an alternative to other 125cc petrol-powered bikes including the Hero Glamour, Honda Shine 125, Bajaj Pulsar 125, Hero Xtreme 125R and TVS Raider 125.
