Benelli Ramps Up Production Capacity To 20,000 Units
Benelli has increased the production capacity at its Hyderabad plant to meet growing demand
Benelli’s Hyderabad facility was earlier capable of churning out 7,000 units. Production capacity can be further scaled up to 40,000 units based on demand. Benelli’s range of bikes in India will soon be updated to meet upcoming emission norms.Benelli has announced that it has ramped up the production capacity at its Hyderabad assembly plant from 7,000 units to 20,000 units. It added that the capacity can be further increased to 40,000 based on the demand.
Apart from this, the company also aims to bring in new EVs in a bid to capture a slice of India's burgeoning electric two-wheeler industry. The Italian manufacturer is likely to introduce entry-level electric two-wheelers that could be used for intra-city transport. The government's recent incentives like reduced GTS rates on EVs and FAME II subsidy seems to have spurred Benelli into entering this nascent segment. Rest assured, Benelli’s electric bikes will be priced competitively thanks to these incentives. What’s more, the government also plans to ban all motorcycles under 150cc come 2025. The company added that it has already set up an R&D centre in the country to explore the feasibility of introducing electric models here.
Meanwhile, Benelli says it is working on updating its current crop of motorcycles to meet the more stringent BS6 emission norms that are set to be implemented by 1 April 2020. Benelli currently offers the TNT 300, TNT 600i, 302R and the TRK 502 in India. Recently, it even launched the much-anticipated Leoncino 500 at a price of Rs 4.79 lakh. This makes it the most affordable 500cc neo-retro styled scrambler in India. We also expect the company to give the 600i a cosmetic update to enhance its appeal.
