Benelli’s First Electric Bike Spied, Looks Close To Production-ready
The prototype of the bike was showcased at the 2021 Beijing Motor Show
The bike is called the QJ7000D and comes from QJMotors, Benelli’s sister brand in China. It aims to take on the 125cc sportbike segment. Features like all-LED lighting, a USD fork, and a digital instrument cluster will come as standard. For a long time, QJMotors, sister company of Benelli, has watched the electric motorcycle segment from the sidelines. But recently, at the 2021 Beijing Motor Show, it finally revealed its first e-bike, the QJ7000D. Now, the company has filed for design patents which has given us a better look at its production model. And like most QJMotor offerings, we expect this one to be introduced into international markets as a Benelli offering.
Since the numbers in the QJMotor’s model names usually refer to the engine capacity, in this case, we think it’s the peak wattage of the motor, i.e. 7000W, or 7kW. The company, though, claims that the bike puts out 10kW and can achieve a top speed of 100kmph, meaning the 7000D’s performance will be somewhat equivalent to a 125cc bike. The range is claimed to be about 100km.
In terms of size, however, the QJ7000D looks much bigger than a usual 125cc offering. The design is radical and elements like the sleek twin-pod LED headlamp and flowing tail section make it look quite handsome.
The bike also boasts a USD fork, alloy wheels, petal discs at both ends and a clip-on handlebar. It also gets a TFT instrument cluster, a regular fixture on QJMotors’ bikes. Additionally, the “fuel tank” here serves as a storage compartment, which the bikemaker claims can fit a full face helmet.
We expect QJMotors to launch the QJ7000D in a few months. As mentioned above, once launched, the bike could soon make its way to international markets under the Benelli marque. And if it’s well received, it wouldn’t be too far-sighted to expect it in India too!
