BMW F 900 R, F 900 XR Launched In India: Prices Start At Rs 9.90 Lakh
Both bikes are powered by the same 895cc parallel-twin motor
Will be the first BS6 offering from the Bavarian manufacturer. Feature list includes LED lights, a colour TFT screen and ride modes. Prices expected to start from Rs 11 lakh.BMW Motorrad has launched its first BS6-compliant offerings in India, the BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR. The roadster in its standard trim is priced at Rs 9.90 lakh while the sports tourer in adventure clothing will set you back by Rs 10.50 lakh. The F 900 XR is also available in the Pro variant which costs 11.50 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, India). Other than the BS6-compliant engine, these bikes feature a number of electronic rider aids and some premium components.
The F 900 R is BMW’s way back into the middleweight naked segment after almost a decade. It replaces the F 800 R but takes its style quotient and powertrain to the next level. Out goes the alienesque design language of the F 800 R, replaced by the sleek and muscular styling inspired from the BMW Roadster concept. But the bike's design highlight has to be its slim all-LED headlight.
And then you have the F 900 XR on the other side of the coin which takes its design cues from the Concept 9Cento which was showcased in 2018. It blends sports bikes performance with the comfort of an adventure tourer. The two bikes also feature a full-colour TFT display, ride modes (Rain/Road) and ASC Automatic Stability Control as standard. Customers can step things up a notch with the Pro package on the F 900 XR which adds a bunch of additional features including cornering lights, keyless ignition, a Pro mode and an electronically adjustable monoshock.

Both bikes use a reworked version of the 853cc motor that powers the F 750 GS and F 850 GS. It's been bored out to displace 895cc with 105PS and 92Nm on tap. While that's less than rivals like the Triumph Street Triple RS and the Kawasaki Z900, it's comparable to streetfighters like the KTM 790 Duke and the Ducati Monster 821. The F900 XR, on the other hand, doesn’t have a direct rival though it comes quite close to the Ducati Multistrada 950.
In terms of equipment, both bikes use similar hardware -- a 43 upside-down fork and a monoshock. However, the units on the XR have better travel compared to the R. For added convenience, there’s a Pro package which consists of an electronically-adjustable monoshock. In terms of safety, both the F 900 R and XR use twin 320mm disc brakes up front and a single 265mm disc brake at the rear paired with dual-channel ABS.
