The G 310 R and GS get a price cut of Rs 54,000 and Rs 64,000 respectively

Both Beemers get some crucial updates for 2020 along with new colour schemes. Features include ride-by-wire throttle, slipper clutch, LED lighting & adjustable levers. Powered by a BS6 compliant 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. EMI offers start at Rs 4,500.

BMW Motorrad has launched the BS6 G 310 R and G 310 GS in India at Rs 2.45 lakh and Rs 2.85 lakh (ex-showroom) respectively. That's a price cut of Rs 54,000 and Rs 64,000 over their respective BS4 counterparts. Bookings for the bikes have officially commenced across the country for a token amount of Rs 50,000. Interested customers can pick up the BS6 G 310 R for a low EMI of Rs 4,500 per month. The baby GS, on the other hand, will come in at Rs 5,500 per month. Both bikes feature a number of updates -- new colours, subtle design changes, a new LED headlight running LED DRLs, LED turn signals, ride-by-wire throttle, slipper clutch and adjustable brake and clutch levers.

Aside from the feature updates, BMW has also tweaked the 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine to comply with BS6 emission norms. Thankfully, this hasn’t taken a toll on its performance. The engine still puts out 34PS at 9,500rpm and 28Nm at 7,500rpm, same as before.

Additional updates come in the form of slip-and-assist clutch for lighter clutch action and ride-by-wire for better fueling and a crisper throttle response. The beemers also benefit from GTT (Glide Through Traffic). Similar updates were seen on the BS6 Apache RR 310 which made it much smoother and we have the same expectations from the Bavarian twins.

Nothing's changed from the hardware point of view. Both bikes use the same suspension and braking setup as before. A USD fork up front and a preload-adjustable monoshock. A 300mm and 240mm front and rear disc brakes help anchor these bikes, with dual-channel ABS coming in as standard. The two areas where the G 310 GS differs from the G 310 R are tyres and suspension. The former runs dual-purpose tyres and longer travel suspension.

Customers can opt from 6 colour schemes between the two models. The G 310 R is available in a standard Cosmic Black colour. Polar White and ‘Style Sport’ in Limestone Metallic will cost you an additional Rs 10,000 over the ex-showroom price of the roadster. Same goes for the G 310 GS which is available in Polar White. BMW will charge you an additional Rs 6,000 over the ex-showroom price of the ADV for the ‘40 years of GS’ Edition in Cosmic Black and ‘Style Rallye’ in Kyanite blue Metallic.

For added peace of mind, BMW Motorrad is offering an extended 3-year warranty which includes Road Side Assistance (RSA). The warranty can be extended to the fourth and fifth year for an additional cost of Rs 16,250. The first 500 customers though can avail this offer for a special price of just Rs 5,499. The BMW G 310 R primarily competes against the KTM 390 Duke and the Honda CB300R. It also rivals the BS6 TVS Apache RR 310 and Kawasaki Ninja 300. As for the BS6 G 310 GS, it takes on the Royal Enfield Himalayan and Kawasaki Versys-X 300
