BMW G 310 R BS6: What To Expect?
The small Bavarian roadster has been spotted here and abroad in its BS6 guise, suggesting that it could be launched soon enough
BMW Motorrad seems to be gearing up for the launch of the BS6 versions of its G 310 R and G 310 GS. The two small Bavarian motorcycles were spotted testing in Europe a couple of months back and in our country recently. We did spot some obvious new bits on the bike but some things remain a mystery. Here’s what the naked could be packing:
LED headlight and turn indicators
Yeah, duh! That is the most obvious bit that you can see on the spotted bikes. The new headlight is pretty similar to the one on the recently-launched F 900 R and also on the upcoming S 1000 R. The LED units should be better than their halogen counterparts. Also, the new turn indicators add to the premiumness of the motorcycle.
Gets ride-by-wire
Just like its Indian cousin the TVS Apache RR 310, the BMW G 310 siblings will also be getting ride-by-wire. No throttle cable was spotted on the new bike, just like the RR 310. The aid will help the 313cc engine in meeting BS6 emission norms. Hopefully, it will make the same 34PS and 28Nm output as before, as there was no change in the output on the RR 310. The BMW bikes are unlikely to get rider modes. There is no switch cube on the left side and the console is still the same LCD digital dash as before.
Slightly better refinement
With revised engine internals, new engine mounts and inclusion of electronic aids, TVS took major strides in improving the refinement levels of the Apache RR 310. The same improvements are likely in store for the G 310 R, which will make it slightly more refined than before.
No change in underpinnings
While we are okay with the majority of the components being the same as before, we really hoped that BMW would follow TVS’ suit and introduce the same grippy Michelin Road 5 rubber on the G 310 R. Sadly, the spotted bike was running with the same old Pilot Sport tyres which aren’t the best.
Premium pricing slashed?
BMW’s premium pricing of Rs 2.99 lakh for the G 310 R was a bit too much, especially with the likes of the KTM 390 Duke and the Honda CB300R undercutting the Bavarian naked by a significant amount. The last lot of BS4 bikes went with a solid discount of around Rs 75,000! So, if BMW wants to boost sales of the G 310 R, we guess a serious price cut is in store for the naked. Not to the tune of Rs 75,000 but we guess it will now be more on par with the 390 Duke i.e. around Rs 2.50 lakh.
