BREAKING: 650cc Royal Enfield Scrambler Spotted Abroad; Based On Interceptor 650
Will get the same engine but different suspension, seat with scrambler styling
Royal Enfield is set to expand its 650cc bikes’ portfolio very soon. While Super Meteor 650 and the Shotgun 650 have already been spotted testing, a third member, one that appears to be an Interceptor 650-based scrambler has now been spotted.
The scrambler appears to be powered by the same air-oil-cooled 648cc parallel twin as the existing Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 – albeit with a new two-into-one exhaust, which should ideally be a lighter setup than what’s present on the 650 twins. The output figures too, should be the same 47.65PS and 52Nm that the twins make.
The newly spotted test mule sports quite a few elements we usually see on scramblers. While the bike seems to be sitting on the same frame as the Interceptor 650, the seat is a different one, one that’s more in line with its scrambler styling. The upcoming bike gets an upside-down fork, which also seems to be different from the ones seen on the Super Meteor 650 and Shotgun 650, and it may well be set up differently to suit the nature of the scrambler. As you move to the rear, you’ll notice that the twin shocks are not gas-charged as the ones found on the Interceptor 650. That said, they’ll still be preload-adjustable jobbies.

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s Where The Modified 822cc Royal Enfield Himalayan Stands Now
Other underpinnings, as can be seen from the pictures, include a disc brake at both ends and dual-channel ABS will most likely come as standard. The wheels on the test mule are wire-spoked units. Royal Enfield could equip the bike with an LED headlight too. Its instrument console layout might be the same as what’s on the current bikes and Tripper navigation could be offered as an accessory.
The scrambler might look ready to hit the global market, but its official unveiling might be some time away, since the bikemaker is gearing up to launch the Himalayan 450 at present. That said, the prospect of a scrambler based on the 650cc platform is definitely very exciting and it’ll be interesting to see how the brand goes about it. We expect Royal Enfield to price it between Rs 3.5 and Rs 4 lakh (ex-showroom). For perspective, the Interceptor 650’s prices start from Rs 2,88,814 (ex-showroom Delhi).
