BREAKING: Kawasaki Ninja 400 Launched At Rs 4.99 Lakh
It costs the same as its BS4 iteration
After teasing its launch, Kawasaki India has finally launched the BS6 iteration of the Ninja 400 for Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom), keeping its price unchanged.
Like the recently updated international-spec model, the bike that comes to India also makes 45.4PS and 37Nm from its 399cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine. While the power figures are the same, the bike now produces 1Nm less than its BS4 version. That said, it still makes 1.9PS more than its closest rival, the KTM RC 390 while they both have identical torque figures. Kawasaki also updated the bike’s slip-and-assist clutch that the company claims has 20 percent lighter lever action than before.

Other underpinnings on the Ninja 400 include a 41mm telescopic fork along with a preload-adjustable monoshock, both of which are unchanged from the previous version. A 286mm front disc and a 193mm one at the rear handle braking duties, both significantly smaller than the RC 390’s 320mm and 230mm setup at the front and rear respectively. To back the bike’s sporty credentials, it comes with 17-inchers at both ends with a 110-section tyre at the front and 150-section tyre at the rear. Tipping the scales at 168kg (same as before), it is one of the lightest bikes in its segment.
While the bike has always been promising, the only hurdle has been its price. At Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) the supersport is Rs 1,85,078 more expensive than the KTM RC 390 and a colossal Rs 2,34,000 dearer than the TVS Apache RR 310. After the Ninja 300, the Ninja 400 is the second bike from Kawasaki’s stable that we found to be punching above its weight with the price.
The 2022 Kawasaki Ninja 400 will primarily rival the KTM RC 390, which has also recently been given a generational update. The supersport will also face stiff competition from less powerful, smaller-capacity alternatives like the TVS Apache RR 310 and the upcoming BMW G 310 RR.
