Breaking: Suzuki Katana Launched At Rs 13.61 Lakh

The screaming inline-four heart of the Katana shall rumble once again on Indian soil

The legend returns! Yes, after a considerable wait, Suzuki has finally launched the new Katana in India. This icon of the 80’s has been reimagined for today and comes wearing a beautiful neo-retro garb. But that’s not all, because underneath the retro look is modern hardware and a BS6-compliant, inline-four heart that still promises a lot of excitement.

The biggest change on the Katana has to be its cleaner 999cc, inline-four cylinder, liquid cooled engine. It produces a healthy 152PS and 106Nm, that’s 2PS more and 2Nm less than before, but still very good numbers to have on a streetfighter.

The Katana will get Suzuki’s Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.). This electronics package features a five stage traction control system, three riding modes, ride-by-wire throttle, a low RPM assist that reduces engine stalling in peak traffic and Suzuki’s Easy Start System.

The rest of the hardware on the new Suzuki Katana appears to be the same as what we’ve seen on it at the Auto Expo back in 2020. While this motorcycle is a really good proposition in terms of styling and performance, we suspect its kerb weight of 217kg and low 140mm ground clearance will be a bit cumbersome on Indian roads.

The design of the Katana has been inspired from the Japanese sword, from which it derives its name. Hence, it has beautiful sharp lines from the nose to the tail. The headlight is a rectangular unit just like on the 80’s model, but now it gets a modern LED unit. Even the instrument console is a multi-function LCD screen, albeit without smartphone connectivity.
