BREAKING: Yamaha YZF-R15 M To Launch On September 21

Modified On Sep 15, 2021 06:27 AM By Manaal Mahatme for Yamaha R15S

The popular supersport has got a host of changes, both skin-deep and to the mechanicals

Gets updated design inspired by the Yamaha R7. Packs USD fork. The engine now produces marginally less power.

Ever since the images and the RTO documents of the Yamaha R15M surfaced on the internet, enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for the supersport’s official debut. Now, the Japanese bike maker has confirmed that the R15 M will be launched in India on September 21.

The ‘Block Your Date’ invite reveals the new Yamaha R1M-inspired silver-and-black paint scheme with blue highlights. A production-spec bike, bearing the ‘R15M’ badge, was also snapped last month with the same livery, confirming that Yamaha will roll out a new variant of the supersport as well.

The Yamaha YZF-R15 M comes with a host of updates, starting with an overhauled fairing inspired by the company’s latest-generation bigger supersports. The bike also has a new fascia inspired by the Yamaha YZF-R7, with a single projector headlight flanked by DRLs on both sides. The company will likely equip the R15 M with its Y-Connect app, just like it did with the FZ-X.

Another significant change comes in the form of the USD fork. While the international-spec R15 V3 came with USDs, the Indian model had to do with telescopic units to save costs. The leaked document also revealed that the 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine has been detuned to produce 18.35PS, 0.25 less than the current-gen V3.

Thanks to all these updates, we expect the Yamaha R15 M to demand a premium of Rs 6,000 - Rs 8,000 over the current model, which retails at Rs 1.57 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Though the R15 doesn’t have a direct rival in our market, it will take on the KTM RC 125, whose overhauled avatar will be launched soon.
